    Foncebadon!!!

There are other places that have blossomed like Foncebadón. In her book What The Psychic told the Pilgrim, Jane Christmas talks about the dismal pub and its owner in Redecilla. Since the publication of her book, that dismal place, now a pub/one-star hotel has been purchased by Lourdes who runs...

Picking grapes from vineyards along the way

I have a Spanish friend who lives in an orange growing area. She informed me that it is totally acceptable for a person passing by to pick one orange and eat it. It is NOT ok for that same person to pick many oranges. I wonder (and please NOT opinions, but if someone actually KNOWS) is it ok to...

Nearly Half a Million on the Frances....but....

there are also those like me who walk it, don't register at St-Jean and don't get a compostela because they have already done it and got one compostela.

Revised title: Didn't know about other ways to reserve beds, and found no rooms on booking.com

i would think that if Roncesvalles is fully booked, so would Orison and they don't give refund for cancellation.

Revised title: Didn't know about other ways to reserve beds, and found no rooms on booking.com

Brierley says 3.1k but one way or another, it is a lovely part of the Camino at the end of a long day. Flat and through a beautiful, shaded area. I had to ship my bag to Roncesvalles because that is as far as the French transport will take them, so I did not have sleeping bag etc but I was able...

Revised title: Didn't know about other ways to reserve beds, and found no rooms on booking.com

I usually walk to Orisson and back; then I take an early taxi (Taxi Napoleon) back to Orisson in the morning. I sleep in Burguete which is a pleasant 3 k from Roncesvalles and has nice accommodation.

Flora and Fauna along the Camino Frances

You can read Jason Penner's The Way of the Gardener - an excellent Camino book and one of my favorites.

Is this the CF best kept secret? (Alternative route after Villatuerta or Estella)

It is no secret but don't tell everyone :) I stayed there and loved the walk from Estella. If you walk it in the morning, you have shade almost all the way. It would be hot walking in the afternoon once you are out of the more treed area. The path is absolutely gorgeous and the albergue is...

    Any suggestions for walking alone?

I am 74 and have started alone from Saint-Jean a couple of times. (My husband is also not interested) and always made friends along the way, but mostly it is easy to meet other pilgrims in albergues. I would suggest you do that the first night or so. I know... we all suffer from insomnia and...

Pamplona Late Arrival. Place To Stay? 2022

You might be right. I had not thought about that.

Pamplona Late Arrival. Place To Stay? 2022

You could check Albergue Plaza Catedral. Not sure how late someone is there but they give you a code to come in after open hours. They are friendly and clean and comfortable. On Bookings... Buen camino

    Albergue Accommodations

Usually you will have to go to private hotels for privacy for two but it is quite reasonable. In Portomarin, I stayed at the Pasino a Pasino which was very lovely and very easy to find, and we had a room with 3 beds so you could stay there and pay for the 3 beds if the camino is not too busy and...

What to do if there is no bed in Orisson

I did not walk the second day to Orisson; I rode in the taxi to Orisson. I had actually chosen not to book in Orisson because I had enjoyed staying at the Bidean in St. Jean before and had also once stayed in Orisson. I wanted to experience the hike to and from Orisson and thoroughly enjoyed...

What to do if there is no bed in Orisson

I was on the Camino Francés in September 2021. Orisson was full. I walked from my albergue, the Bidean in St-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Orisson and back; stayed again at the Bidean (and enjoyed the wonderful meal prepared by Joe the chef and part-owner with Pascal) and the next morning rode with the...

A Great Kindness in El Ganso

What a lovely story. I had a similar experience this past October. I also injured my foot and in O'Cebreiro, I met a Spanish woman named (no kidding) Maria del Camino. Maria who is in her 50's is taking time off to dedicate herself to helping pilgrims in distress along the Camino. She drove me...

Surplus accomodation planned for mass return of pilgrims?

Does anyone know if there will be more accommodation planned for the horde of pilgrims that will arrive when the Camino opens? Everybody I talk to wants to go back asap including me. With this being a holy year and with all of us who have not been able to walk the Camino this last year, I wonder...

Calzadilla de los Hermanillos interview with shopkeeper

I just checked it out. No distancing but I see it was done in 2015... Sweet shopkeeper.

How I walk the Camino again every day in my living room

This is wonderful. My husband has been going all around the world this way, on his exercise bicycle. I had that idea of doing the Camino that way too. I am glad someone did it because I would not have the skill to do it. It will allow so many more people who cannot afford the flight etc or who...
