    Accommodation after O Pedrouzo

I too walked Sarria to Santiago. Being the slowest pilgrim on the Camino, I took 13 days to do what you did in six. Your description of walking to the Cathedral brought back sweet memories. I was struggling along on a sidewalk, and was passed by an elderly lady. She said: Take heart, you...

Sending backpack on to next stage...

I shipped a large suitcase from Sarria to Santiago. In May 2015. I had taken a cruise from Miami to Barcelona and needed different clothes than what was needed on the Camino. I sent it to Ivar and he sent an email confirming arrival. I left it at a bar in Sarria, and it arrived in 3 days...

The circle of life and death

Beautiful things happen on the Camino. In 2015 just outside of Salcedo I was approached by a woman who asked if I was OK. It seems I was staggering some. After offering me some water, we got to talking. It came out that she knew my father who had passed 25 years earlier. It was a beautiful...

Shortest Amount of Time to make the Camino from SJPP to Sant

I walked Sarria to SdC in May 2015. Was the slowest pilgrim on the way. 117k in 13 days. Not many others to talk with while walking as they passed me by. But made up for it when I stopped for the day. Was going back this year but my hip gave out. Now 19 days past replacement and walking...

Favorite Places to Eat in Sarria

I arrived on the TrenHotel from Barcelona to begin my Camino in the morning. I was very excited and started to walk out of town. Reaching the top of the hill, I remembered I had left my credential at home. I turned around and the very first place I came to was the Matias. Obtained my...

worried about being a slow walker

I too am a slow walker. Never had a problem finding an albergue when I needed to stop. The biggest problem I had from slow walking was to find someone to walk with. I went several days at a time only greeting other pilgrims as they raced by, really missing talking and sharing, When someone...

    Recommendations on route from Sarria

I stayed at Casa Garcia in Gonzar. Very nice privado with a good dinner. Bed was 10E as was dinner. I would stay there again.

The joy of sharing the last 100 km

I walked Sarria to Santiago last May. I walked only as far as my body would allow each day. It actually took me 13 days for my pilgrimage. I definitely got into a "groove" of walking, eating and sleeping. I met pilgrims every day whom I will never forget. I enjoyed the walk so much I am...

    April /May/June 2016 Peregrinos - Camino Frances

May not fit your timeframe, but I leave Leon on April 16. Most everyone on the list will pass me on the Camino as I walk really slow. If any see a slow old man in a Tilly hat with treking poles, say hi as you pass me.

    Cheapest Way to Way

Just yesterday I purchased my ticket from Calif. Through Orbitz. The cost of the ticket and one hotel night in Madrid was $300 less than the airfare alone. Nothing says you have to use the hotel, but I will use it when I get back to Madrid the day before my flight home. Brings the Camino cost...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

I arrived in Gonzar utterly exhausted, cold and wet. Casa Garcia is a 2 minute walk from the Camino. Nice courtyard with a bar, a great roaring fireplace and good beds. The dinner was 10 E and the menu included a thick (2 inches) steak. Bed was 10 E also.

    Just the Backpack and Me

Purchases my poles at Costco for $25. I would not have finished in Santiago without them. Saved my 66 year old knees and hips, especially on down-hills.

    Sleeping Bag vs Liner only

On my Sarria to SDC Camino in early May, I used a light flannel bag that I used more as a blanket. On one night I used it with my silk liner, but it was too warm. Best of all the flannel bag was only $20. I will use this combo on my next Camino.

Good Things That Happen On the Camino

My Camino from Sarria to SDC was 13 days. Every day I experienced the kindness of pilgrims and locals. I was especially moved by the elderly walking in their neighborhood. Everyone of them started conversations asking where I was from, and always ended with Buen Camino. I always left them with...

    Back Home

For me, the walk and entering the place in SDC were the award. For those who may care to read my blog of my trip the address is: donhoreltravel.blogspot.com Warning: this blog starts at home and ends at home. The Camino is a few pages in, as I traveled to Spain on a cruise ship, and left...

    Pilgrim Passport in Sarria

I almost forgot to pick up my Credential as I was leaving Sarria. Turned around and walked back around the first corner and found a cafe called Matias Italian that was open for desayuno. She had Credentials for 1.50 Euro. Picked it up and got my first stamp too.

    Back Home

Hi All, I just returned home from my first Camino. After listening to the advice on this forum, I walked from Sarria to SDC. I am 66 years old, a couch potato, with little walking prep. I was terribly prepared for the physical challenges, but I made it none-the-less. One of the most...

Santiago to Madrid Train on May 20th

I used the Renfe site to buy sticker from Barcelona to Sarria. The cost on Renfe was 115 euros. On RailEurope it would have cost 235 euros. The Renfe site is difficult but Google translate helped. I couldn't getting credit card to authorize so usedPaypaland it wired beautifully. I start my...

    Where to Start

I was able to E-mail Xacotrans for luggage forwarding directly to SDC from Sarria. They will charge 12E as long as you don't need it their on the same day. Same day is 105E. They provided a map of Sarria with the path to the drop-off and the address clearly marked. Very responsive to my inquiry.
