    Ridiculous new routes into Portomarín

I learned a similar word in Italian - "fango".

Oh no, I think I trained too hard!

Also, don't hesitate to send your pack forward if needed. Especially at the beginning.

Anyone doing the Camino in April 2016

I think I also love my pack. It may have something to do with the history of 3 caminos. It's an old faithful pal now.

Tonight I start packing. But where to walk?

CF. Just do it! You know you want to.

    Walking the Camino francés...again

The Camino Francés is popular for a reason. It's different the 2nd time, but still there is this amazing magic. Buen Camino!

    Buying shoes on the way......

Agree with the above comments - buy before you go and wear them now. Even lightweight hiking boots like the Keens I use take at least a few walks to settle in.

Need help, I just lost my only child 3 months ago and feel called to the El Camino

Dear @Missing Mike. My heart goes out to you and I offer my sincere sympathy. Walking my first Camino was just what I needed to take stock of my life after a (different kind of) big change. Regarding gear and preparations - Keep it simple. You can buy almost everything in the bigger centres...

Anyone doing the Camino in April 2016

Hi BillyB I'm just using hiking type pants (trousers) - wearing one and carrying one in the pack. I use swimming trunks which can double as shorts for wearing around the albergue and sleeping. I start from Pamplona on Wed 27th April.

Anyone doing the Camino in April 2016

My list looks pretty minimal. Hi BillyB I have refined my packing list over the years. It is based on the lightest and least bulky of each item that I can get away with. I don't carry a paper guidebook anymore, using apps on my phone instead. I don't carry an extra pair of sneakers, and my...

Advice for best plan to reassure my (understandably) concerned family

Hi Gardner59, welcome to the forum. I have already seen some excellent responses so not much to add. You may start alone, but it doesn't taken long to make friends on the Camino. It's worth ironing out the communication before you go, so you can reassure your loved ones that you're ok and...

    Great Joy and Thanks

How wonderful! May you enjoy good weather, rude health and have a great time. Yes I will add my prayers that your mother will continue to be well. Ultreia!

Water bladder or no water bladder; that is my question?

Lots of good advice already in this discussion. Choice of water container is definitely very personal. I like using a water bladder for various reasons: - With my pack I can't reach water bottles in the side pockets. - I don't like bottles dangling from the belt or weighing down pockets. - I...

    Can I do this??

Hi KerrySA. Best of luck with your Camino. I know it will be a momentous experience. It's great that you are starting out without a return flight booked. It means you can relax and focus on your daily walk rather than on a deadline. I've just returned from a quick walk from Pamplona to...

Your favorite way to spend 8 days on the Camino

You'll find better wine in Rioja but a small amount of wine from the fountain will make you fly over the hills. Ask me. I couldn't figure out why my knees hurt so much the next day until I remembered the wine in my water bottle ;-)
