A pushchair or trailer would work - as a pup Dachsie might not want to walk all the way especially when it is hot... Then she or you and she(!) could take a light tent so if an albergue won't take you - you can sleep outside (take turns..?!) Some albergues do allow dogs some not. Sometimes...
Our American pal came on a cycle pilgrimage in the UK (Mary Michael Pilgrim's Way) and straight away announced loudly she had made 'A real mess of her pants' then she was really sad because of the blind cats in Cornwall - she had passed several 'Cats eyes have been removed' signs....! (cats eyes...
I can always tell the Dutch cyclists - they have the best bikes!! AND they can hold a conversation whilst pedalling uphill despite coming from a flat country.... Whereas I come from Devon (the God/Goddess' own country! ;)) where roads only point up or down and spend my time gasping for...
I am still walking it - in sections.... Done South Devon and some of Cornwall. - I agree it is not cycle-friendly - so it nearly caused divorce when I took my husband along a few sections after we cycled the Saint's Way (also not cycle friendly...) it might of been the dog and trailer I...
Really enjoyed you blog - its a fantastic part of the world - and just made for relentless walking... (or cycling!)
Have you thought of doing the Mary Michael Pilgrim's Way that goes from the end of Cornwall across to Norfolk? Its another amazing route with lots of historic/sacred/interesting...
I have wild camped all over Spain, Portugal and France (many other places too!) it is easy, simple and if anyone does notice you - they are usually concerned that you will be cold, or that you have enough food...
As long as you are gone first thing, leave no traces (I usually clean up a place if...
You seem to be following a really low carb diet.... which is what i have done since being diagnosed as type2 diabetic - that was a shock - it was even more of a shock giving up bread, beer and chips... but it WORKS!!! in 3 and a half months I lost 2 stone and i am no longer diabetic!!! But I...
I will look forward to watching it... I may not recognise most of the participants but I enjoy watching human nature v pilgrimage - even if rather staged...! But then I would probably watch a live feed of any pilgrimage route with pilgrims grumbling along about blisters, socks and snoring... Bit...
Yeah, Callistemon splendens is the usual red one seen about, but there are yellow varieties too. They originate in Australia, but are found all over where it is not too wet/cold for them. We can grow quite a few in the South West of the UK.... They are very tough and can survive drought well.
Cycling the Portuguese we heard what we thought was a leaking water pipe - hissing... Stopped to fill water bottle and saw it was a huge browny-grey snake curled up in the bank - just our height! we pedalled off pretty quick!
If your family is likely to worry (my mum said I'd bitten off more than I could chew when I first went a' pilgrimage!) how about showing them this forum or giving them a book to read (Spanish Steps by Tim Moore is excellent. And very funny) it could put their minds at rest or at least help them...
Always go at your own pace...I usually cycle, but so slowly that I get a family of camino walkers for maybe a week at a time.. It makes them feel SO good when they get to the albergue before me...;)
For the actual 'celebrities' it may arouse their 'inner pilgrim' and they might feel moved to return and do it properly... For the watching 'sofa-huggers' it may do the same - or at least get them thinking...
As for stimulating the 'hordes' to descend on the Camino routes - eerrrrmmm.... we...
If family issues are paramount in your mind and you have pain, chronic pain, back pain - or other pain conditions - it might help to look at the TMSwiki website - and explore the related forum (like this forum - full of knowledgeable kind folk!) and if it rings a bell with you - try the (free!)...
I think the third just meaans 'historic' places in the town - bridges, houses etc worth visiting for their history. I thought the 4th one was for a shopping centre...
I did a 'convoluted' 'pagan' camino - ending at Rosslyn near Edinburgh. After cycling 3300 miles (over 2 summers) I got stung by bees near Lindisfarne and my ankle swelled up terribly. At North Berwick I went to the Cottage Hospital for advice and was told 'No more cycling' 'ice and raised leg'...
I'd be like HeidiL! On the VdlP the hospitalero didn't appear in the morning, so I found the sellos and stamped everyone's credencials, and yes, usually clean up any mess that's been left, wake up pilgrims who haven't woken when there's a morning curfew, - it's the mother hen thing... As long as...
