LIVE from the Camino Feels Unpleasantly Busy on the Camino Frances (May Day, 2024)

I did invierno in Nov 2019 just before Covid. I have never been so wet, continuously! That is beyond control. But….I’d do it again. 😉 I met no one. And infrastructure was perfectly adequate.

Reservoir Level in Portomarin in Sept. 2023

On a slight side issue. I am not a sailor of any kind and generally wary of boats smaller than the Titanic. But looking at @JabbaPapa's picture, there must be a time when the water level is going down that the lake becomes un-navigable along its length because the old bridge must get in the way...

Festival of El Colacho in Castrillo de Murcia

This is a little bit off piste, but only about 6km from Hontanas, (after Burgos along the CF). I think if I happened to be near on the right day I might make the diversion. The date changes each year, as it is on the Sunday after Corpus Christi, which is the Thursday after Trinity Sunday...

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

Welcome @jbhogg66 No I don't think so.. :-( There is a separate symbol for that! The search continues.....

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

@David Tallan Michael must be busy today as he is usually quick to answer!

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

That is spooky!. I have got 5.7.5 for Camino Frances, and no legend listed. As you. But if I go to the All the Routes version, then I see this, and the version is 1.3.8 "2w ago" But note grey, not red(-dish).

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

Hi @David Tallan we must be looking at different versions!! ;) For me the sign (but as I said not red) is coming next in that list under 'Has a train station'!

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

@Joanne P In the Map Legend I can see the same symbol, but in black/grey saying: Indicates that this town is commonly published in guidebooks as an end-of-stage, often resulting in large numbers of pilgrims. Enjoy them or avoid them as you wish, but i don't think that would make sense for...

    Wise Pilgrim App - question

I just turned on my WisePilgrim, and it updated, and i checked those two entries and that symbol is not there for me! But it remains on other places. @wisepilgrim is usually SUPER-responsive on here!

    Meeting Efren in Belarado

We have tested and tasted too much, lover - through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.... (Patrick Kavanagh) Other opinions are of course valid and welcome.

    Camino Congestion - Change routes?

A vote here for the Baztan, a fairly gentle and, when I walked a few years ago, almost solitary walk from Bayonne to Pamplona. BUT probably NOT ideal for someone who is walking for the very first time. A little bit of navigation skill is useful, but you will get GPX and be able to use your phone...

Has the Camino Frances become a victim of its own success?

Now you have got past that early "bump" of crowds between SJPdP and Pamplona you will find things settle down a bit and you should be able to set your own pace and find your own way. Take each day as it comes.

Has the Camino Frances become a victim of its own success?

@Zeiksz Welcome to the forum. Don't worry - you will be fine! And you will add to the spirit of the Camino Frances! Be yourself, take your time and enjoy.

Visiting the Unique Cathedral of the Moorland on the Camino de Santiago

I am not sure where to post this - it doesn't fall into an obvious category. [Mods feel free to re-assign.] [Mod note: Done] https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/12/hopes-cathedral-of-the-moorland-could-save-spanish-village-with-single-resident It is the same story as many villages on the...

Detour to see the Eunate Church

This will not help you I fear, but may make you jealous...;) Post #43 [it is in an unrelated thread] Long ago (now) there was a small albergue at the church - my favourite ever I think. One of the guests that night was an Italian (I think) expert in church architecture. He was very insightful...

    In a beautiful church

@NualaOC @donalomahony @roamingpaddy Paudie came from Littleton in Tipperary and was a priest of St Patrick's Missionary Society, known locally as the Kiltegan Fathers. I am too. He worked in Brazil and then Nigeria, and then Brazil again, before he returned to work in Ireland in 2013. Sadly...

    Today early start,but going nowhere

@Harington @philip a tobin @kirkie Another city-dwelling Irish scouse (or possibly scouse Irish) here, (not living in Liverpool nor Ireland at present) who has gone on record as saying that the sounds of traffic and early morning bin lorries are at least as pleasing to me as the squawking of...

    Convents & Monasteries

Yes a really lovely place. I have a vague memory that the Marist Brothers left a couple of years ago? But that the albergue is still functioning? I am NOT stating this, but really asking if anyone can confirm whether the Brothers are still there or not.

    Santiago - getting the Compostella

I am grateful for the openness of this discussion. I fear treading into religious discussion and offending the rules of this forum. But I think we are OK so far. ;) @David Tallan is correct, I would issue the Compostela. Certainly for 'two people' out or '1,200 people' I would turn a blind...
