I now have a revised starting date, Mon 31 August from Pamplona. An ATM ate my credit card, and I'll have to wait until the bank opens on Monday morning to get it back.

Thank you for your detailed reply marylynn, that's all very helpful. I agree with your idea of not relying on technology too much. I've been thinking of taking the Brierley guidebook to refer to while walking if needed, but will have a look at CaminoGuide.net first.
