I feel for you, mate!. What you have been through is emotionally and physically daunting! It's good to see that you remained positive throughout your experience. It's a bit scary, just thinking about what you have been through. I feel small when I compare my trivial experiences and inconvenience...
Thanks Peter! Yeah you should be on your way then. Your motivation will make you recover soon..
Yes I did enjoy the CP Coastal route. Less busy than CF for sure but equally enjoyable although walking on the roadside was tough. Imagine speeding cars coming right at you!
I look forward to my...
Hi Peter,
G'day!.
Try and have physiotherapy/Rehab to restrengthen your lower limb muscles. You can then do the prescribed exercises to reverse any limb muscle weakness and atrophy brought on by osteoarthirtis. You have plenty of time before your next Camino.
All the best!
Angelo
Hi YorkShire Pilgrim,
It's sad to hear what happened to you.
Listen to your body and the sage advice of the forum members who have posted on your thread. It's easy to be put off by the difficulties you have been through. What you have been through IS difficult. Once you have recovered, you...
I don't think there is a Pilgrims office as such in Porto.
You will be counted as having started from Porto when you get your Compostela and have the stamp of the Cathedral at the Pilgrims office in Santiago when you fill in details such as your name, age, country of origin, and the place where...
An experience I'd like to share is the difficulty of street side walking around Pedra Furada. I almost got collected by a speeding motorist who like many, did not slow down for pedestrians. The cobblestones in Portugal seem different and harder on the feet than those in Spain.
There are many...
I also stopped at the Restaurante Orbenlle for lunch on the second week of May. I was confused by the number of arrows and those that were painted over in black. The waiter at the restaurant told me to go all the way down through a forest trail. I enjoyed the walk and passed a few pilgrims as we...
I remember that place you refer to. I went in there hoping to have a snack but it was full of people both locals and pilgrims alike so I decided to walk on. Well my decision wasn't right because i didn't find another cafe/bar for a fair distance.
Yeah we have those hi-vis vests in the hardware...
Great! By the way, I still can't over that refreshing German beer one scorching day on the Caminho when I walked into that makeshift bar with that big crowd of German pilgrims on a guided walk. The photo you posted earlier captured the moment nicely
I didn't have a safety vest but I stuck...
I couldn't agree more with Annie Santiago. Special mention to the section around Pedra Furada where you walk on the wild side, so to speak as you try not to be collected by some cars that do not slow down for Pilgrims. It's a bit different from the CF with less open spaces in my opinion, but...
I got this year's edition of Brierley's guide...Found it very useful although I still got lost on my day out of Porto. But wait, the veterans of the CP (Albertinho, Amorfati and many more) may come up with other options.
Bom Caminho!
I'm a fan of the music! I like the ensemble and how the instruments combine to come up with a nice tune. Lyrics in Portuguese, I guess? Thanks heaps. And it fits the bill...that kind of music is something you'd hear in Galicia, I reckon.
