Best way out of Porto for the central route

My wife and I walked out of Porto up the river to Matosinhos and then up the coast to Vila do Conde. We then headed onto the inland track from there to Arcos. Saw a bit of the coast and then the country.

    Camino Portugues hesitation

I loved Portugal and Spain. But apart from the walking (we walked from Porto in May 2016), the towns of Lisbon, Santarem, Tomar, Coimbra and Porto to name but a few are spectacular. The quiet after the Francais (September 2014) was noticeable. The people were friendly, generous and helpful...

All good stuff above, there are also the port cellars over the river. But if I went back I would also take a day to catch a train up the Douro River and valley (it is about 5 hours or so) then catch the boat back after visiting a few wineries.
