I have walked both the Senda Litoral and the Central out of Porto. I was 60 when I walked the coastal, 64 when walking the central - which I did from Lisbon. I enjoyed both routes, although they are very different, & I found both routes easy to walk, but I am fairly fit.

A lot depends on how fit you are before you begin, and how often during the day you have breaks.

@EdelK, I walked the Senda Litoral in April this year. There was no time when I felt uncomfortable walking alone, and I found both the experience and the scenery wonderful.
And the walk out of Porto along the riverfront at pre dawn was glorious.
I have Elle's guidebook, I find it really clear and easy to follow. :) I like that it's digital, so no extra weight and no network connection needed.
In contrast Brierley's guide seems a little confusing, although the maps are very good.
