HI,
i walked in mid-May. the places i stayed in:
Viana do Castelo: hotel 25 euro, on the beach, on the main street
Caminha: at the entrance of the city, a small hotel, with pilgrim discount 25 euro
Valenca: i wanted to stay at the bombeiros(fire-station) for the experience, but when i arrived i...
Hi Bina,
i walked last may from the 8-th till the 16th, and it was wet!!! every day with rain, just the final ones in Santiago were a gift: sunny and warm, around 16-22 degrees celsius. on the walk it was like colder mornings, warming up till 14 degrees celsius, in between the showers.
When i walked, in May, i was the only one in the albergues, on the road i have not met anyone in Portugal. in Spain, i met more pilgrims, but there was not a problem to find a bed in the albergues, we did not hurry to be first in line to get a bed at 13:00... so i think in october it will be the...
"This is a preliminary to my main walk, which will go from Tui to Santiago"
Hi,
don't you want to walk all along the coast till Vigo? (i am gathering info about this route... till now knowing not much about it) and then join teh main route at Redondela?
hi,
at which section do yo refer to? there is a route, i just heard, almost all on the coast, till Vigo, however there are no albergues on that route. i walked from Porto - Viana do Castelo - Caminha on the ocean shore, and then to Valenca (here you can take Caminha - La Guarda with a ferry...
Hi Domo,
i had a very nice experience. do not panic. i spoke not a word of portuguese, as i arrived at the bus station in Porto. i only knew i need to get to the cathedral, but i arrived around 5 a.m. so nobody was on the street, i had no map, nothing. i started just walking, in the hope of...
hi,
i heard too late about these free fire-station sleeping possibilities in Portugal. in Valenca, last stop in Portugal, i wanted to stay at a fire-station. just to see what kind of experience is that. but when i arrived there, the albergue Teotonio was next to the fire station, and from the...
hi,
i walked from Porto this May, and tried to wear colorful clothes :) especially on the road :) i had no problems. even truck drivers stopped to help me get the direction :)
hi!
i would say do not panic, i did the route from Porto to Santiago this May, and among the others, i met a spanish group: the average was 66 years, but they were more fit as i was at 28. :) they did 20 km-s a day, in 5-6 hours, and after a good sleep went on exploring the city... shopping for...
hi!
nice to hear about your camino!!! but you have missed the experience of getting used to the everyday rain :) (actually since then it does not bother me walking in the rain :) ) , of being wet all the time with no more dry socks or pants, and of sleeping with the same bunch of people...
3 weeks ago there were not any crowds, people are speaking of-because of the Holy Year.
as i walking ALONE THE WHOLE PORTUGAL ROUTE - i was wondering when do the crowds begin walking....
and i was thinking before starting my camino, not to go because of the crowds.... maybe everybody thinks...
if you don't want to spend money, in valenca you can stay at the fire station, for free!!!!! every fire station welcomes pilgrims!!! but in Valenca, the albergue is much more beautiful, it is next to the fire station, near the castle... and is donativo.
so if you already have a credential, so...

do you know that in Portugal you don't have to worry about albergues, every fire station is open for pilgrims. even a small village has a fire station so no don't panic! i met a lot of pilgrims in this may who actually slept in firestations. it's a pity i did not know this from the beginning.
i...
i have seen some albergues, which have everything you need, for example in Padron.. however in most of them you will need your own pots, cups, wine bottle openers!!!! :), so if you decided to cook all way long, you'd better bring you own staff... (i made the camino from Porto this May)
im mid may the crowds were not there yet :) just got back from Santiago, wlaking from Porto, and in Portugal i walked ALONE, from Tui with small groups of 3 to 10 people :) so no crowds yet, even the albergues were not crowded yet. there wasn't a problem of hurry to get a bed in the albergue
