Has anyone got information on the hospice (not the auberge) a Great Saint Bernard Pass? I've read their website, and I'd appreciate insights as to how comfortable it is, quality of the food, etc., basically anything that will help me decide if it's what I want. In particular, I won't be...
Planning to be in the area of Olhain on 28 May this year. The only place that I think might have accommodations is Parc d'Olhain (although they haven't responded to my inquiries yet). Has anyone else found a place to stay in or around Olhain? Thx!
Great advice, all! Many thanks. We only have 42 days available this time, so obviously we're not going to make it to Rome - will be taking our time and enjoying the hike, and will pick up where we stopped (wherever that may be) next time.
If any of you have additional tips on things to do or...
Anyone have opinions on the best way to leave Calais, going to either Wissant or Guines? Wissant is the official way, but I can save an entire day by going directly to Guines. My preference is to go directly to Guines, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts/experiences. Thanks!
Can anyone provide information on whether this leg of the Via Francigena is worthwhile in terms of beauty/satisfaction (ok, that's poorly written, but you get the drift), or is it just a slog until you get to Switzerland?
Thanks! The tourist office said there are no trails available from Positano to Sorrento, but Gillian thought there may be a way to combine some of her maps with a road (shudder) map, so I'm taking a look at that.
After the Via Francigena, we're heading towards the Amalfi coast for awhile. Has anyone done/got information on hiking trails connecting Positano to Sorrento?
Thanks so much for this information - it's exactly what I was looking for. Do you have any favorite things to do, or places to stay, maybe things to look out for? How crowded does this trail get? Again, many thanks!
Thinking about taking the alternate legs from San Quirico to Abbadia San Salvatore, then to Acquapendente via Proceno. Has anyone got information on how well this route is marked? Do you recommend taking it instead of the standard route through Radicofani?
Also, is the distance that the Via...
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed! You've certainly given us a lot to think about. Hopefully we'll have it figured out by the time we leave.
This is a small "c" camino post wondering if anyone has information on hiking Italy's east coast, starting in Brindisi then heading north through Bari, Parco Nazionale del Gragano, and points north? Been having trouble putting together a trek of approximately 21 days that doesn't involve hiking...
I'm going to try to get a copy of that book - looks interesting. Right now, we're in the "Our Itinerary Changes After Every New Piece of Information We See" and "Why Didn't We Start This Months Ago" phases of research. (Nothing new there! :)) GerardNL is excellent as far as he goes, but he only...
More great information! I think the best starting point will be combining the HUB Geoculturale map with GerardNL's information and seeing what I come up with. I'll also use your other suggestions as I get more data(and become familiar with those tools). Thanks again!
Thanks for the info. Seems like such a shame that Italy hasn't taken advantage of what would seem to be a natural path to develop. On the other hand, maybe that part of Italy isn't very tourist friendly and/or scenic - Did any of your research turn up information on that? Thanks!
Thanks, Elaine! The map on the HUB Geoculturale – Appia Regina Viarum site shows exactly the route I'm interested in. Now, all I need to do is figure out how much (if any) of it actually exists in some form or another. I received word from the Cammini d'Italia saying the Appian Way is a...
We are going to hike from Brindisi to Naples this June. We want to follow the Appian Way including these towns: Brindisi, Taranto, Gravina,Venosa, Aquilonia, and Aeclanum, then go to Salerno, Sorrento, Pompeii, and Naples.
Does anyone have information on the trails on this route, such as their...
