Great time of year, IMO. Mostly good weather, the heat of Summer should be gone. Lots of great peregrinos. Pub crawl (pintxos and wine) in Logrono and Burgos, incomparable. Prepare for wind on the Meseta, and rain in Galicia, and one of the greatest experiences in life. Buen Camino.
If you start, say the Camino Frances, from the Pyrenees, you can later pick up where you left off. A good reason to return. Many folks break up the Camino. Start on the Spanish side of the border and 11 days will get you a very good start. Maybe to Grañon or Villafranca Montes de Oca. From...
Welcome, Maggie. Great time to Camino.
Being from Vancouver, you'll be right at home in Galicia (weather-wise).
Excitement and anxiety are part of the preparations. Before you know it you'll be a veteran peregrina.
Keep the excitement and the joy with you everyday, and you'll have a great...
I had heard of backpacks swiped from bus luggage compartments, so I had some concern for that, but generally no where else.
For my own peace of mind I carried two large carabiner clips; one to fasten my pack to my wife's pack, and the other to fasten them to a pole or rail in the compartment...
Try Madrid to Venta de Baños (Palencia) to Burgos.
Note: if you're looking on renfe.com, it will not show trains that are more than 60 or 90 days out. Use a date next week and enter Madrid* (all stations) to Burgos.
Good luck.
Hanise, there are many of your fellow county people, both here on this forum and on F'book, who have Camino experience. I'm sure they can answer many of your concerns and questions.
BTW, take care using the term 'the whole way'. You might, as I did, say it to the man who started walking at his...
(couldn't find this on the forum - thought this a fitting place)
The pilgrim who didn't want to be a millionaire
He gave away his fortune and began walking the world, has done the Camino de Santiago 31 times and is now in Marbella...
I agree with Annie. Because of your back and knee concerns, you might have some trouble and disappointment in some other stages. If you find you want more, you can take a train to another part of the Camino and walk a few more sections (a great way to see Spain), or travel to the Andalusia and...
Sally, welcome and Buen Viaje.
We bought a lightweight duffle bag and packed our extra things in it, along with a flat box and tape. When we arrived in Pamplona, we unfolded the box, packed it with the things for after the Camino, and mailed it to relatives in Santander. I don't recall for...
Small world. Arrived at Bizjarreta today after flying into Pamplona. We walked down to the bar for a bite an met AnnieY, just finishing lunch.
Turned cold as rainy just as we Floridians arrived. Head out tomorrow.
