Hola, Ken. I did my first at 73 and a Forum friend, Jose, was75. You can do it and you'll love it. I too left my love of 50 years behind (she thought I was a bit off it!).
Keep practicing. It takes us oldsters a lot longer to get in shape. Work your way up slowly. Plan to go shorter distances...
You're in great company at 55!
I was 74 when I did my first.
I was inspired by Jose (75), who did it the year before me and I followed him on this forum.
His advice: Go! It's one of the hardest and most wonderful life experiences you'll ever have.
As most here will tell you, the lessons of the...
Buen Camino!
You should be good until after Leon. Then you'll begin picking up day-packers and some tours. Start reserving as you approach Sarria and beyond though. There it gets to be "a bit of a circus" as an Australian friend advised me.
Buen Camino, Terry. You'll love the journey! Keep up with this forum and set yourself on the calendar. You'll find others starting on or abpout your departure.
Stay at Orisson! It is really a great stop and a wonderful place to meet other pilgrims. You'll need reservations at Orisson and...

I recommend stopping at Orrison for all the reasons above, especially the degree of difficulty on your first day.
BUT...the biggest reason is it's a fun dinner! It was possibly the most fun dinner of my entire Camino.
I made fast friends that night because of the camaraderie.
Everyone stands up...
Hello, Lina,
Just finished the Frances from St Jean.
You will positively love it.
A grand journey.
This forum is a wealth of info.
If you can't find an answer ask...lots of help here!
Buen Camino!
Here's an update to this "ole folks" saga.
Just finished a Sept-Oct Camino Frances in 35 days and I'm 73.
I had dinner in Melide with a Korean fellow who was 74.
Lots of gray hair on the Camino this Fall.
Best of all...it doesn't matter how old or young you are on the Camino.
I had my most...
Love this thread! I step foot onto the Camino at SJPP in Sept at 73. So looking forward to the journey....in shorts Now...I just need to practice! Just learned that running and walking are VERY different...ouch! Muscle change doesn't happen quickly at this age; unless, of course, we're talking...
