Yes I have walked there twice before and stayed in the Municipal Albergue in Dumbria. It is a really good place to stay. I will be there again this year around the middle of June.
Hi JoJo,
I also live in Devon and am leaving with my son on Sunday to walk the Camino Frances. We are not flying but going on the ferry from Plymouth to Santander then travelling by bus and train and will be in St Jean Pied de Port on Tuesday to start walking next Wednesday,
Buen Camino,
Mike
Hi Dan,
I have seen wheelchair users on the Camino Frances a number of times in the past, journeying with at least one or two assistances to help them deal with slopes etc. Also some have stayed in the same Albergues as me because having facilities for disabled people is part of their service...
Hi Beeman,
I am 69 and will be leaving Oviedo on the 29th of August taking it easy getting to Santiago in 13 days, so we might meet up somewhere.
Having walked the Frances three times in 2014, 2015 and 2016 including Finisterre and Muxia each time, this year will be different.
Buen Camino,
Mike
If you are starting in July, you need to check the timing of the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, the running of the bulls. It is usually around 5th to 15th of July and accommodation around Pamplona will all be booked out.
Check out National Express from London Victoria Coach Station to Bayonne. I have used this and it is cheaper. Also you do not have the same restrictions on what you can carry. It goes via the Dover-Calais ferry to Paris where you change coaches for Bayonne. The drop-off in Bayonne is right...
Hi Seth,
From current reports, there seem to be around 400 people per day starting from SJPP so you will certainly not be alone!
I will be starting there on the 18th of May so may see you on the road.
Buen Camino,
Mike
Hi Martha,
Most people walk in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat, but you will surely see some walking through Astorga to get to Albergues further on in Murias de Rechivaldo (2.3kms), Santa Catalina de Somoza (6.6kms), El Ganso (10.9kms) or Rabanal del Camino (17.7kms). After Rabanal...
In 2014 I met a couple of guys walking with their dogs and they had to camp as dogs are not allowed in any accommodation in Spain. They had no problems finding places to pitch their tents, frequently they were allowed to do so at Albergues.
Without any specific listing of such places, they...
Hi Heather and Peter,
I will be starting from SJPP on the 18th of May and should be passing through Logrono on the 25th. I plan to reach Santiago on the 19th of June, so we will probably meet up somewhere along the way.
Buen Camino,
Mike
https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/members/49341/ Enjoy your stay there. I have walked through Samos before, a lovely route. This year I plan to stay there but it will be in mid June so won't see you there. :(
Hi Kanga,
I don't usually comment on ladies' pack lists as they are different from those of us guys. However I just wanted to say that you seem to be saving weight on your 2 pairs of knickers because you have cut off the silent 'k'.
I also would recommend the route via Villar de Mazarife. As you leave La Virgen del Camino going down the small hill on the main road, look for the route off to the left.
In Villar de Mazarife I have stayed at the Albergue Tio Pepe which is in the central square by the Church and also the...
Hi Wayne,
I am starting in SJPP on the 8th of May and will be walking through Leon around the 5th or 6th of June so may see you on the road.
Buen Camino,
Mike
