Thanks for the suggestion. I applaud your flexibility and approach. That is my thought too. I will see how the weather unfolds when I arrive in Spain.
Part of what appeals to me about the whole walk is that one must face each day as it comes, make the immediate decisions necessary...it is...
I am heading off in late April too - since I am relying on military HOPs (I am retired US Air Force and Space Available is a perk for retirees) to get me to Spain, my start date is a bit open-ended.
I am concerned about the snow in the upper ranges at the start so I am actually considering...
Yikes! That is fast. I plan to walk in late April and most of May, but at a more liesurely pace. Of course the Camino changes people. Perhaps I will stride out and finish in 20 days too! Tee hee hee hee. I am allowing 40 days and I hope to let each day kind of unfold as it will.
Life is...
What fun to see all your smilinf, friendly faces! 8-)
You know what would also be fun (especially for those of us who have yet to make the pilgrimage ourselves) - photos of the actual backpacks and/or contents. And maybe some commentary on what NOT to do or what one would do if they had "do...
Nothing can put us in the moment and each of us must live each moment of our life on our own terms, but that does not keep me from reading voraciously about aspects of life that interest me. Seeing the world through the eyes of another can make one more aware.
The MacLane book and Coehlo...
I may be in that family of walkers! I will walk in early to mid-May 2009 from around Pamplona. I am eager to begin all the planning and so on, but it is a bit premature (for me) to get into the weeds and seeds of preparations so soon. The waiting is like waiting to have a baby! 8-)
Life...
Quite the review Gareth! 8-)
The local library has only 3 books on the Camino including S. MacLaine (sp?) and the aforementioned Paulo...). I have the Judith Rupp Camino book on my Amazon wish list and a birthday coming up - I can only hope!
What books do you recommend?

I am interested in learning more about hiking sticks. Since I hope to take a military HOP (I am retired Air Force) to Europe as a prelude to my Camino pilgrimage, I really want to travel light. I do not want problems with carry-on stuff. So I am wondering about purchasing a walking stick in...
Sweet-Sil - I am awed! About the same time you posted this book recommendation, a friend of a family member, whom I have never corresponded with and do not know at all, sent me a note (via Facebook) recommending this same book! The woman herself has no interest in, nor experience with the...
Commiting myself to undertaking my pilgrimage across Northern Spain, I have found that many of the logistical details that could have haunted me have simply fallen into place. The money, transportation and time for the adventure unfolded easily so now I am, like a prenant woman, savoring the...
Hello!
Yes, the US gathering will be in Albuquerque, NM, March 10-17 2009. You can get details at http://www.americanpilgrims.com. There will also be training for people who wish to work at the refugios.
It will be a great send off for me! 8-)
I am off to bed soon...sleepy, sleepy...
Gooooood Morning Marnie!
Wow - I imagine your anticipation level is spiking! I will be eagerly looking forward to hearing about your experience. We have a lot in common...age, PCV, NM, etc...
You know in March 2009 there is a huge gathering of Camino pilgrims gathering in Albuquerque...I plan...
Hello Kelly!
Two trips to the Camino - wow ...you probably have some great stories to share! Like you, I expect to meet compatible companions as I walk...
I do not think there are troubles associated with travelling, I am simply interested in hearing from women (especially 50 years plus) who...
Hello Deidre - You are and adventurous one - taking students overseas takes a kind of courage that many of us do not have! (I did a stint as a courier - yikes! What stories I have about that! And my AF JROTC years gave me lots of grey hair on roadtrips with my wild and crazy dcadets!)
I look...
Hello Sil!
Thanks for the stats! Your speculation on age is a bit off - I am pushing 60...a late bloomer starting my Air Force career late and painting all over the canvas of my life.
The logistics may be similar for men and women, for young and old and older, etc, but still I would like to...
Greetings Brendan!
Oh I am pushing 60...not so old, compared to my AmeriCorps*VISTA counterpart who is a vigorous 84 year old dynamo!
What I am interested in is hearing about how more mature (physically not mentally) women handle some of the challenges - packing light, toting things...
Greetings you Intrepid Pilgrims!
The "seed was planted many years ago - back in the early 1970's when I found myself suddenly (unexpectedly) living near Madrid. I give James Michenir's "Iberia" credit for planting that seed which has laid dormant for all these years. Now circumstances seem to...
