Yes, the RENFE site/app is often maddening. I find that for a few € more you can get a changeable ticket which I could not do on Trainline and lost a full fare once. The app is a good thing to have. The tarjeta dorada IS golden. You can now easily pay with a credit card, if rejected it will...
Look at my response #21 above: I checked and they do not have a timetable for Madrid-Oviedo. When you book with third parties you may lose your money if you are delayed and miss the train. You have a fighting chance if you book directly with RENFE, and pay a little extra for a change.
Paying...
Thanks. Also not yet available! 😳
Spoke to my cousin in Oviedo today, apparently there is a government meeting in Madrid to discuss April conundrum.
This is also very telling.
Only thing is to continue to watch & wait.
Laurie, I think it’s the AVE & ALVIA that are missing. Less than 1 month away is really unusual. I wonder if they are changing winter to spring schedules?
ALSA is running a sale until tomorrow, and an extra 3 hrs to Oviedo is looking somewhat tempting, but I know the minute I buy bus, the train...
A Quick Look on Rome2Rio shows frequent ALSA bus trips from the Santander bus station to Oviedo. Bus = 2h 15 minutes. Train is nearly 5 and 1/2 hours.
The airport is 5 km from the bus station with frequent local bus access trip duration about 15 minutes. Taxi too.
Buen Camino!
The easiest way to do it is using a combination of ALSA & MONBUS.
Leon To Lugo on ALSA
Then Lugo to Pontevedra on MONBUS
Schedule is not yet out for September on MONBUS
There used to be a 6 am bus from Leon, now the earliest I see is 10:15 arriving 1:30
Then MONBUS 3 pm Lugo to Pontevedra...
I echo what Peregrina 2000, HeidiL, and DMSyracuse have reported above. In April of this year I had 55 minute connecting time and was ushered through the “fast” lane at immigration which is on the far right. This line had a single agent and was also being used for people in wheelchairs who went...
Take a look on Rome 2 Rio. Monbus is an option as is taking the train. Examples below. Best to check with each company online for accuracy. Buen Camino!
😂😂😂
Good old RENFE! I prefer their website to brokers for the ability to modify your trip since they will not make changes for Trainline.
The Tarjeta Dorada is an awesome perk!
Madrid has a dual below ground train system. Cercanías run by RENFE and the Metro.
With Cercanías from Sol to T4 is about 30 minutes travel time though I always allot more time. I learned a more direct route this past November: from Sol take Cercanías and change trains at the next stop, Nuevos...
This thread is so interesting. Laurie summed up my odyssey well of searching for transport from Leon to Vigo and Tui. It takes some sleuthing to figure it all out, and I personally enjoy doing the research.
Some caveats:
-Rome2Rio though big picture helpful never gives you the full story...
