    Accommodation in Sarria

Another recommendation for staying in Barbedelo. Casa Barbadelo. They start breakfast at 06:00 and you are on your way hours before all the crowds in Sarria will ever catch you. By the time they do, they have thinned out considerably. Plus, they have a pool there and a restaurant that serves...

    sending extra luggage in Deutschland

There used to be a Post downstairs in terminal 1, by the Meeting Point, but they closed it a few years ago. Sadly. Am not sure if the new location takes boxes, but from the photos, it is hard to tell.

Do taxis take credit cards now?

Having taken a few taxis this past spring, most of them took only cash. In Santiago, they took my card.

    Stay in St Jean

We stayed at Porte Saint-Jaques & really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the communal meals & pilgrim blessings in the morning.

    Suggestions for advanced booking

You can book at both Orisson or Borda if you want to break up your day between SJPDP and Roncesvalles. Having stayed in both, Borda is far nicer. They both need to be booked ahead of time. If you know when you are flying home or when you expect to reach Santiago, I recommend booking a room in...

    A little whining...

Wish I had known you were in Frankfurt, would have come out to the airport and met you for a coffee. We had several people on our tour this morning that were on long layovers, arrived this morning, flying out tonight. Good luck to you.

Bus transfer or Taxi (to Santiago airport) early in the Morning

Had my hotel book it for me the day before. They suggested it. Good that we did this too, because that day, there were no taxis to be had, due to a convention in town. They were all booked up. Felt quite lucky to have mine. 23€ is the set price now, to go from Santiago to the airport.

Bus from arzua to O pedrouzo

Yeah, but they want you to walk between those 2 towns, not just get 2 stamps in each town.

Taxi from SdC train station to airport?

I had my hotel book a taxi for me for the next day. 23€ as a fixed price. Not sure why Rome2 rio is so wrong on this one. Took the bus last year, but wanted to spend time with friends last Thurs. so the taxi was perfect.

Bayonne to Saint Jean Pied de Port -Transport needed

We have a train from Frankfurt to Paris and then to Bayonne for 14 April but with the many strikes, decided to look up flights just in case. Either into Bilbao or Biaritz. Perhaps even for the day before. Everything is on strike in Germany tomorrow, 27 March and who knows what will be happening...

Train strike in Germany 27 March 2023

Everything is on strike. About the only thing that might be running are the Flix Buses, since that is a private organization. No flights at Frankfurt airport on Monday, no trains, no trams, no regional trains, no city trains. Guess I will get my steps in, in preparation for my Camino in 3 weeks.

Taxi availability (or not )Meseta ???

Oddly enough, when we got to the top of the hill after Castrojerez, there was a nice shiny taxi sitting up there. Not sure if the driver thought people would now give up after climbing up the hill, but there must have been a reason why he was there. Anyway, it made me laugh.

    Advice on itinerary please

I would fly directly to Madrid or maybe even Bilbao. There are flights from Santiago to Frankfurt if that works for you. You can also take a train from Frankfurt to Paris and then Bayonne. This might work better for you if you cannot fly into Paris. Your time frame is really, really short. Are...

    Rail Europe

Question, why use Rail Europe? The French rail website (SCNF or OUI) offers more trains and better prices?

    Carbon neutral Camino?

Living in Frankfurt, there is a flight or train option. My last Camino, flew to Barcelona at 07:30, sat at the train station for a long time, then took a train to Pamplona, arriving at 19:20. All in all, 12 hours travel time. In 2018, took a train from Frankfurt to Paris at 06:00, which is...

Santiago to Porto - by bus or train?

In 2018, took the bus because it was a shorter trip, cost less and was direct to the airport where we were staying in an albergue before flying out the next day. It stopped in town too.

    In Defense of Booking Com

Honestly, have heard that lots of albergues end up with empty beds and food purchased for dinners, when people do not show up that reserved. People are rude and don't bother to let them know. Albergue owners? True or not?

    In Defense of Booking Com

In Jan. 2020, I made a direct booking with a guesthouse in Iceland for 4 nights at the end of March, rather then with booking dot com. Then Covid hit. They had already booked my credit card and absolutely refused a refund. Said the Icelandic Tourist Bureau said they didn't have to. We had a...

flying home from Porto or Madrid?

Bus ride to Porto may be a lot cheaper and faster than taking a train to Madrid and the bus stops right at the airport. For me, Porto is prettier and more interesting than Madrid, and a lot smaller.
