Me too! When I first discovered the bus to Pamplona , I traveled all the way by the Metro to 'Americana' and low and behold it took me all the way back to T4 before continuing. Yes , sometimes one has to change once en route but the Pamplona bus stop is only a few blocks away from reasonably...
You need to take the bus from the Airport to the Bus Terminus in Bilbao Centre. I seem to remember that there are one or two direct trips per day to Logrono - it may be an option to travel through Pamplona , this may be quicker depending on what the times of the direct bus is.
Let us know what the outcome was Scotty. Just as a matter of interest to you , Hontanas nestles in a hollow and you will not see the town until you are literary on top it.
Your plans seem too ambitious to me. Spend the night in Burgos and take a bus to Castrojeriz the next day. Most people in Hontanas do their business in Castrojeriz so getting a lift is quite feasible. - perhaps you can move your booking one day ahead. The camino road from Burgos to Hontanas is...
Frequent and reliable.
I once had a bus trip from Madrid to Pamplona which was delayed by snow - for the last 200km the driver slowed right down - but he got us there.
There are Dozens of threads on this suject - just search the forum.
Buy an ALSA bus ticket to Pamplona in the T4 arrival reception area , walk out side to the bus stop - Take the bus that has come from Madrid. Check into a cheap hostal in Pamplona and even talk to other pilgrims in the streets...
David , I see you are not new to the camino - why not spend the night in Logrono , the paroquial albergue is an incredible experience?
Whichever way , head for the cathedral spires in the old town and pick the route up from there?
Bus is best from T4 .
Hehe , I once went all the way to Avenida de America only to discover the bus stopped where I had started off ............Pre-Forum times.
Yes! , I would spend a week in Viana and hop to Logrono for an outing.
Having said that I really enjoy Malaga - been there half a dozen times and that would be only a bus ride to Marbella?
Try searching ' Getting to Pamplona ' and 'Pamplona' on the forum - there are endless threads :)
Pamplona has a small but adequate airport , you would have fly into a bigger centre from the USA.
I'm shure you know Anne that the owners of the albergue will take you from town to San Anton ........... who knows who will pitch up to help you for a few days.;)
HEHE Who is our Aussie forum member who forgot to reset his watch and left the Pension at midnight thinking it was 6am?
He though that all the restaurants were opening up early untill he passed a Farmica sign.
Hey Katie!
Taking into account all the messing around getting to the centre of Madrid , the best is by bus. The bus to Pamplona stops at T4 and Pamplona bus terminus is only a short walk to the old town. I have done this countless times - the only way to better it is to take a Taxi to...
Think I'll try Corazon Pura next time as earlier on it was always a hassel to get to SJPDP so I have have never started there - This has been a very informative thread to me.:)
