Perhaps find another pilgrim to share a room with. I had to do that on El Norte in late winter 2018 when the owner of the only place to stay one night refused to rent us both separate rooms so I shared a twin bed room with a French entomologist whom I’d met earlier that morning while walking...
Wife (“Wise” not wife 😂) pilgrim app shows the GR paths along the coast so well that I used them when road walking was officially designated the route.
I followed your routing as such in March 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it peregrina2000! I’d love to see/stay at the Carmelite convent in the summer. I agree after the climb out of Oviedo the route to Aviles is easy and doable for anyone if you take your time.
Here’s my (tattered) walking plan from March 2018.....I deviated to avoid Gijon/Aviles section as per recommendation here and enjoyed it. You can see where I stayed..l..no issue or need to reserve if you’re willing to stay in municipal, albergues.
If you are going to Villaviviosa and continuing to Oviedo to the Primitivo or back up to the Norte the Monasterio at Valdedios with its very basic albergue is a very beautiful walk through the forest roads. There are about 30 young Carmelite nuns who live there, run the albergue (donation i...
I walked El Norte completely alone after Bilbao. I remember that weird area with just rocks and scrub brush, felt a bit eerie like being in the moon, I too had to talk myself into a calmer place.....I sang to myself. I also passed Baamonde (that long highway stretch) alone, never heard about any...
Funny but I had 5 rainbows one day while walking on the coastal route this March without any rain that day but I don't suppose Dolly ever walked a Camino
You should have walked this March like I did. I’m sure the mud & rain you’re experiencing now is only half of what I walked through day in and day out . That’s El Norte and I LOVED IT !
Walked el Norte alone in March with Wise Pilgrim Guide Book (I took minebto Faxcopy shop and had them make it a spiral binding great great idea). The accompanying App was the best and I didn’t have internet service. It works off of satellite gps. You can literally see footpaths on the app map...
I agree don’t worry you will meet a fellow pilgrim or two the first day given your walking in June. You might consider joining the women’s only facebook group “CAMIGAS” where they have a spread sheet of dates people are starting or just post your start date and place there and the women will...
Hi Eva,
I can interpret your accommodation question 2 ways: 1. Is there cheap accommodation on El Norte? 2. Will you be able to get a cheap bed to sleep given the number of pilgrims walking in June. I can only answer the first.
I walked El Norte alone this year in March. There are a few...
I just finished El Norte and I would recommend that you spend the 20€ and buy WISE PILGRIM book guide with corresponding map App. The detail level of the live gps map as you walk is fantastic, you’ll never get lost. I looked at your PDF and having walked alone I would not rely on this freebie...
I jus finished El Norte and only ate seafood 3 times and yes you’ll find pasta, salads, beans, pizza without problem and you can shop and prepare your own veggies as I did despite not being a vegetarian. Buen camino and try to take as many coastal variant routes as weather permits, you won’t...
My average daily expenses all inclusive 25-30€ (Sleep and food). If albergue had no breakfast offered then 1st coffee and pastry/toast (€3-4), daily menu 10-12€, evening usually just fruit/tea/biscuits (supermarket).
Are you asking me where the road walking is? It’s both before and after the Primitivo exit. I did detour to Oviedo then back to Avilés to avoid walking to Gijon as they say it’s all industrial. And despite me taking almost all alternate/variant routes I still consider there was too much road...
? Not sure I understand your comment.
Sorry not to reply about accommodations. I choose to stay in municipal Albergues and monasteries as much as possible for the pilgrim interaction (good and not so good at times which teaches me tolerance). I stayed all alone more than once as the Norte was...
