Deba to Zarautz or Zarautz to Deba?

Hi I seem to remember that Getaria and Zumaia are stunning. Getaria I believe has escalators up the steep hillside and an impressive art gallery.

    Accessing Camino Passport in Irún

I think it's good to collect a pilgrim passport from the Cathedral in Irun and I'm very glad we stayed the first night in Pasajes de San Juan. Getting any further would have been impossible for me or so I felt at the time

Camino Del Norte - April 2024

I quite agree. Getting to San PASAJES nearly polished me off. Definitely stay there for a night

    Camino del Norte advise please

I am 70 now. I did Camino del Norte in my 60 s over several stages. The first day after Irun, to Pasajes is absolutely beautiful but a steep and long climb especially if you're not prepared in advance. Over the stages I really minimised the weight I carried in my pack which really helped. Apart...

    Traditional Albergues on Norte

I'm making a mental note to self to look into this later on

    Industrial Walking along the Norte...

I walked el Norte over several holidays but did walk most if it. Good idea to stay first night at Pasajes de San Jusn. Get there early as it only used to have only 14 beds. I enjoyed the industrial walk out from Bilbao. Just see as much as you possibly can as there are so many beautiful things...

    Starting in Irun

It will be a long way to walk from Irun to San Sebastian without stopping at the half way point. El Norte is definitely worth it but don't want you to take on too many risks as a sole traveller

    Liner or sleeping bag

I'm glad I joined in on this thread as it provoked a response

    Liner or sleeping bag

If you are slightly disobedient like me, then I will give you the short answer. I did Camino del Note late Sept and the liner was fine . There are blankets usually available in the albergues and minimising weight and bulk is priority .

    Expensive Accommodations!

Lovely 14 bed albergue first stop after Irun and before San Sebastian. Can't remember name but delightful

    Leaving bag

I left a bag of clothes in a hostel in Bilbao. No problem.Bilbao is a good location for transport links so would maybe be a good choice

Walking the Camino del Norte - Mid September - Am I too optimistic?

Just wanted to say there is a problem in the seaside village of Zarautz on el Norte. According to another post on this Forum 4 campers have tested positive and the village or town of Zarautz has to quarantine. I think

Camino del Norte - Stages of 20-30km

This brings back many happy memories of my Camino del Norte

    The British monk at Sobrado

Unfortunately when attending the evening ceremony I was presented with a bowl as I was leaving. I thought it was for collecting donations and had missed the point it was holy water for cleansing of hands.

    Camino del Norte in April?

Seeing as this thread has come alive again I would disagree about the back of Bilbao to Portugalete. I skipped this first time round as with friends who took a metro to far end of Bilbao. Went back alone prior to flight home and walked along the river to the very impressive bridge. Sorry now...
