Hi Bill From SJPDP you can take a train to bayonne. Change in bayonne to the train to Hendaye, which is only a bridge away from irun (you can walk to irun or take another little train to irun centre and then walk to the albergue :-). Where to start Norte route , landing in Bilboa?
Hi Ria, In 2010 I started in Lezama, not too far from Zamudio, because I arrived late at the airport. So I booked a place to stay in Lezama in advance, took a taxi from the airport & started the next morning. Not too exciting the 1st... Hi Katia, I walked the primitivo last year and i think it's absolutely beautiful. From what I heard it is less asphalt than the norte, and in kms shorter, but a little heavier to walk. I started in Bilbao, and it took me 25 days to get to Santiago (and i had some 'lazy days' of 14 km), so I...- ria

Hi, I walked from Bilbao to Santiago last year, started on July 9 and arrived on August 3. But I took the primitivo (following the norte till just before Gijon and then going down on the primitivo that passes oviedo and lugo, which is an absolutely beautiful way...). Hi Abigail, I can confirm everything that was said before :-): - don't bring a tent - don't be worried about not being fit enough. i'm a jogger too, but not too fanatic, 45 years old and i didn't have any problems at all. after two weeks you will get really strong and doing much more kilometers...- ria
