OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Current Covid impacts on the Camino?? Input from current walkers appreciated!

I left before a lot of changes were made so I can’t speak to how it is now. I’ll report back if you like, when I’m back in the states, on how it was flying home.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Current Covid impacts on the Camino?? Input from current walkers appreciated!

I’ll just state what I’m seeing. In the smaller towns you will see some smaller business owners not masking, especially if it’s not a busy hour. But that’s not universal. It’s still more common to see the owner/employees masked than not. I can only remember one albergue owner who never donned a...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Current Covid impacts on the Camino?? Input from current walkers appreciated!

In the month of April I’ve stayed at 1 municipal and lots of private albergues. Just about all of them have had blankets available. One or two of them had them for rental, in the same way you might pay a euro for a real towel.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Current Covid impacts on the Camino?? Input from current walkers appreciated!

It depends on where you’re at with the walking bubbles. There are places where I’ve seen people struggle to find a bed. I read here on the forum yesterday that there were people without beds in Reliegos recently. Other places where it’s no trouble at all. In June I would expect it to be busier.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Covid on the Frances

Fwiw, a I’ve noticed the albergue owners are still masked most of the time, in spite of the end of the mask mandate. They’re clearly concerned about the risk.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Covid on the Frances

I’ve heard of 2 cases of Covid in the last week, from pilgrims I met personally, ahead of me. Both had cold symptoms for a day or two and didn’t realize it was Covid at first. Minor sore throat seems to be one of the first signs. It’s not a bad idea to keep a self test in your pack. Not every...

COVID Walking the Camino when immuno-compromised or suppressed, so extremely vulnerable to C19

Others have brought up very good points. Definitely check with your doctor. I’m here now, and I’m also very concerned about Covid. I started in albergues but in the last week have become increasingly concerned with what I would call pilgrim carelessness regarding Covid, along with larger...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Are albergues asking for the vaccine passport/vaccination card?

I haven’t been asked once. I finally put my paper proof of vaccination into a safer place that isn’t immediately accessible because I was tired of bumping into it while looking for my passport which you do have to show daily.

    OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Covid

Geez. I’m on the Camino now. I have not seen a lot of coughing pilgrims but last night at dinner someone told me that she knew of two pilgrims in isolation currently due to Covid. This is the first time I heard it mentioned. Crowds have definitely increased in the last week. I agree that...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Updated US Embassy COVID Travel to Spain News

Most everyone in Madrid wears a mask on the street and definitely inside any establishments. It was a relief to me as I come from an anti masking area of the states.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Covid update thoughts? 2022

I’m going to continue taking precautions like I do at home. If I walk into a bar and it’s super crowded I’ll probably walk back out. I’m not comfortable in large crowds yet. But I am also aware that Spain is safer than my own country, not only in terms of violent crime but also in terms of...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

Well I got a simple head cold a week ago. And apparently post Covid it takes twice as long to get over than it did pre-Covid. 😑 So I lost over a week of training. And I’ll be flying to Spain soon. I’m not giving up. I just keep telling myself I can walk slower. Take more breaks. I think even...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/tips-for-uphill-walking-or-hiking.73546/#post-1005982 I read through this conversation today. There's a lot here that I think is helpful for those of us recovering from covid, etc, so I thought I'd link it here. There's a section on not letting...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD US return travel/link for covid tests

The link usually given is $150 for 6 tests (emed). It’s more expensive because of the proctor element, I think? But I definitely don’t need 6 of them. I found this link through an airline article. I just thought perhaps I’m not the only one who doesn’t want 6 tests. American health insurance...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

Did another practice walk today and got a better sense of where I am because I was able to walk outside rather than the treadmill. I think for me, at least for the first couple of weeks , it means an 18 km limit with some shorter days sprinkled in. And a lot of stopping to rest. /sigh That feels...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

This is a really good way to put it. It feels weird to not entirely trust your body again. I got the all clear from the doctor. It's the diminished lung capacity that unnerves me, although joint pain and brain fog still seem to pop up randomly, too. It's also incredibly difficult to re create...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. The pressure to get a bed really just ruins the theoretical joy of the freedom to stop whenever, for me. I’m still trying to get a sense of pace for myself. Ppl say “slow walkers” but what does that even mean? If you’re walking slow but still covering 25 km...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Recovering from Corona virus

I overdid it on a training walk yesterday. 😑 I may have to walk even slower than I thought. I was just wondering approximately how many km apart have you booked your accommodations? I know we are all on different paces with different health concerns. There are lots of ppl who take 50+ days but...
