Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

I admit that I started out with an ultra light sleeping bag on my Camino in mid Sept of 2017. About 10 or so days later I left it in an albergue because I found it to be way too warm to use, and just used my sleeping bag liner. I was perfectly comfortable. Now, I was 60 years old that year...

As most are crimes of opportunity I like "do not tempt an honest man (or woman)"

    Cell phone purchase

What she says. It is likely not the phone, but rather the sim card. If you phone is "unlocked" you should be able to get a sim card in Spain and that will solve your problems.

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

There were very few Mountain Equipment Co ops back then........

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

There are so many ways to make the Camino Pilgrimage, each with their own challenges: walk, bicycle, with a donkey, on a horse. With the last two, you can carry more stuff, but there is the added responsibility of having to find food and lodgings for them as well, as well as a farrier and...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I had always thought of that particular convenience to be of good use in case of ill health or injury: But each to his own.

Very happy about my $6 (200g/7oz) 20 L daypack find!

I checked out the seat to sky sling bag when I first heard of . However, its not available locally, and otherwise would have cost me upwards of $50. And though I like the ideal it seems a bit steep to me.

Very happy about my $6 (200g/7oz) 20 L daypack find!

I got one at my local Mark's Work Wearhouse. It compresses down to the size of a good size peach, and weighs only a couple of ounces and cost me $10.00

    Gram Weenies

Even on the Mesta? I was under the impression fountains were fewer and further between there.

    Gram Weenies

That is something that is really rather obvious but seldom mentioned "courtesy for your fellow pilgrims" The resources of any albergue are finite, and that means hot water. There is a fine old naval tradition called a "Pussar Shower" this was primarily used during water rationing and it goes...

You could also get your underwear a size smaller than you usually wear. However bear in mind the adage "nothing goes right when your underwear is tight."

What is the one luxury or non-essential item you would bring with you?

heating coils were quite lively in another thread, having to do with the Camino Portugues, or the Nord, I think. They have proven to be invaluable, on those routes as apparently they are not as rich in amenities. as the Frances. Ah! here it is...

What to wear to fly in?

I read the article, and perhaps it is because I am old and suspicious, I suspect that there is more to this than meets the eye: In the first place, unless they had to wear badges saying "I am a pass flyer" no one would be the wiser. I suspect that they overbooked, and these girls were...

What to wear to fly in?

Once upon at time, long ago and far away, before the dark and stormy night, airline travel was a "big event": people dressed up for it and were on their best behaviour too. You could also expect good service and "brown bag" lunches were unthinkable. Now, I don't know which came first...

Gear Selection Stress - Not Just for Camino Newbies

T'is ever the truth. Clothing manufacturers seem to view women's clothing as that much more "disposable" than men's: the fabric is frequently more flimsy, pockets are not practical, and the construction is poor: and with few exceptions, are made to practically "self destruct" after a short...

What is the one luxury or non-essential item you would bring with you?

(scurries off to find out what a Kendal Mint Cake happens to be :) I think I would have to search stores that carry imported sweets to find it in my neck of the woods. Now, a visit to Wikipedia has educated me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kendal_Mint_Cake and I found this particular...
