Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

That's convoluted. Open WhatsApp, new chat icon, new contact, and type their number It will either say "this person is on WhatsApp" or "this person is not on WhatsApp". Either way, you can save them to your contacts.

Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

For phonecalls, you're best dialling the number rather than using whatsapp. Install skype and buy skype credit to call phones in Spain if your phone operator charges a lot for international calls or roaming. Do not send text messages (sms) as usually owners cannot or will not text an...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

I think op is wearing tighter shorts to prevent chaffing.. but the point stands, view tops (tees/shirts/nightwear) and bottoms (shorts/nightwear/trousers) as a category each.. 5 of each is too much. I like my light merino base layers that double as pj's, sun protectors, long sleeve base T or...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

I took it to mean T's are eyes crying, and the w was meant to be a weird bunny face 😅 Let's see if I'm right.

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

It's easy to overpack when you have shorts for under your pants, plus zip off pants, plus light pants for nighttime, plus t-shirts, plus a tshirt for nighttime. The long-sleeve night-time tshirt can become a base layer against the cold or a long-sleeve tshirt to protect your skin against the...

    Sleeping bag and lock

I brought a small combination lock. I only used it a couple of times as i keep valuables on me at all times. my backpack usually doesn't fit in lockers. Probably more useful in non-pilgrim/city hostels. I'd say a lock isn't essential but it's small and easily fits in the waistbelt pocket.

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

I think Camino Chrissy's advice is worth listening to. "I've managed without apps. How? I walk with my son, he is an avid backpacker, has a keen sense of direction and he occasionally uses Google Maps."

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

Ah. That's just demonstrating how the line looks on the app. The original topic! Actually today i made a detour to Lalín (not somewhere I particularly wanted to see - a guide suggested it as a way to break up a stage, but in fact it just saved me 3km that I'll have to walk with interest...

    Najera pilgrim shop

Now now, you wouldn't like it if someone responded to you like that if you attempted to speak Spanish.

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

How did you figure out you were on the wrong route after 15-30 mins? I had a few experience like that and generally after becoming suspicious about the lack of arrows i checked an app..... Actually as a result of these experiences i unfortunately found myself checking my phone too much. One...

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

Following the arrows would be ideal but they can be feast or famine. So many arrows you think they're actually taking the p155, then no arrows for 5km. And worst is when an arrow is missing... And you check your app to discover you're in the middle of a lake

    Najera pilgrim shop

Let me Google that... Nájera is a small town. It has a sports shop that on Monday only opens in the evening. At least it has a post office. Logroño or Burgos are better options to buy specialist equipment.

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

I was going to suggest this but it makes roads impossible to see!

Difficult to read yellow route on Buen Camino app

You are correct, it was a poor choice of colour, especially when it runs through an urban area (coloured in yellow) or along a road (also a shade of yellow) But Google maps alao has washy colours that are hard to distinguish. I guess it's not going to be changed without confusing 100s of app...

    Poncho in SJPDP?

My backpack cost €200 and I've walked 1300km with it ... but now I feel ripped off because I saw a "Nicgid 50L Lightweight Hiking Backpack Foldable Multi-Functional Travel Bag Water Resistant Casual Camping Rucksack for Men Women Outdoor Sport Mountain" for €28.75 on Amazon.

What’s the difference between my two chargers?

The larger charger might be suitable for charging a laptop, while the smaller one might not. It might also have more ports allowing you to charge several devices at once. It doesn't necessarily mean it will charge your phone any faster. Take the smaller charger.

What do you wash your clothes with

I use a bar of regular hand/body soap to wash my clothes. Sometimes I'll use shampoo or shower gel if they're available. I also carry a silicone plug/stopper (with mixed results) as many places don't have them in sinks.

    Basic necessities on the trail

Jokes aside, they could probably do with some extra toilet facilities. Re squat toilets. On the inca trail in peru, hikers managed to break the toilets at certain campsites. I'm not sure if it was vandalism or if people tried to squat on them but when they were replaced, squat toilets were...
