A funny side story to this thread - On a camino some years ago my wife had the call of nature bell go off and she stepped off the trail to find an appropriate place to answer the "bell".

I used to laugh at people carrying an umbrella while hiking until I tried it myself. Now, I wouldn't be caught without one. They make such a difference, especially at the end of the day when all you want to do is shower then elevate your feet.

Using plastic bags over your feet would be ideal in a survival situation, but for walking a Camino not so much.
If it's a torrential rainfall maybe bivouac under a tree for a while and wait out the storm. No use creating problems with blisters etc... when you have many...
(For me) - - An absolute must have, especially right now with the heat blanketing Europe. Besides, good luck finding any for sale along a camino route. They weigh next to nothing, but are worth their weight in gold when needed by you or by someone in need.
I know this is a yearly topic that comes up on this forum when we are all getting ready to "dial in" our packs.

I would opt for a poncho, which provides ample body coverage, pack coverage and above all the needed free-flowing ventilation to keep you and your clothes dry, thus precluding any chance of chills and/or hypothermia.
My exact scenario four times. It's become a running joke amongst my travel friends. And yet on 1 flight the lady sitting across from me had two 12 inch knitting needles and a pair of scissors in hand while she was knitting. (Comical, but I "Get it").........
I prefer walking in the hotter months so I routinely walk with a wide brimmed hat to alleviate sun, both on my face and back of my neck. Not long ago I found this great hat online and couldn't resist buying it.
It is a straw hat with a fan on the front blowing air into the interior of the hat...
