On my third Camino, I met a youngish (30s?) woman (from California?) in Logroño with a rolling suitcase filled with large tubs of protein powder (or some such health supplements) which she shipped ahead. She also taxied between various towns on several Caminos because she thought she "failed" to...
One week later and my shipment from Ferrovicmar has arrived in Canada. Unfortunately, this Altus poncho is identical to the one I already have, except that the Altus logo is bigger. And it's a S while my older one is XS, which was big enough. $70+ bucks wasted.
Ditto! I also followed gittihare's suggestion and ordered a poncho from Ferrovicmar. I was bounced out of the PayPal order though so tried it again using my VISA. This better be the right poncho! Between the exchange rate and shipping charge to Canada, this thing cost over $70!
Or at least I...
Thank you, wayfarer. Though now that gittiharre has explained the complicated world of Altus ponchos, I will try to to get the S3 first. Failing that, I will look for a fabric sealant. Did it add much to the weight?
Thank you, gittiharre! I think I must have el Basic. Though it certainly was not cheap -- bought it in one of the shops along the main drag in SJPdP for around €40. And I was so pleased with myself for getting the Altus instead of the no-name cheapo poncho...
Where did you order the S3?
Though...
This is a variation on the great business card idea; it involves some effort (or considerable, depending on what you have on hand) but it might catch someone's fancy. On my first Camino, I wished for a pack of postcards from home since pilgrims ask about each others' homelands (when we're not...
Wayfarer, you mentioned waterproofing your rain gear. How did you do that? I bought an Altus Rain Series poncho in SJPdP in 2012 and was fairly happy with it. I only encountered one day of pouring rain that spring -- I was soaked through. But so was everyone else so I didn't suspect a problem...
Hola peregrinos,
I want to share a great Apple app that I recently discovered. It's Postcards by Lonely Planet.
Download the app (it's free), take a photo from your iPhone or iPad (or use one of Lonely Planet's), add your message and postal address and send. A glossy postcard is printed and...
El Corte Inglés has an excellent selection of desigual. In León, I bought a desigual scarf as a gift for my friend (a huge fan) who looked after my place while I was on Camino last spring. Lightweight, compact, and sufficiently special -- the perfect gift. I wasn't looking for a thank you gift...
I may be responsible for the "available in stores around the world" comment since Zsit clarified to me that Lush was available outside North America. But how did the solid soaps/shampoos fans keep them from becoming soggy blobs? I had the square tin; admittedly I crammed it full with Trichomania...
Hola, Miss Zsit,
The Camino never ends. Yes, another miracle. I don't read the forum every day nor do I read all the posts. I only went to this one because I've been pondering how to reduce the weight of my toiletries when I go back this fall. Solid soaps didn't work for me though -- they...
I am totally shocked and appalled by markss' over-reaction. This is not the welcoming forum I am used to.
I think I know zsit (I like to think I might be the "lovely Camino friend" she mentioned who introduced her to Toothy Tabs), and knowing her, she would enthusiastically share tips that she...
