    How to get weight down

I don't want to sound flippant, but by the time you get to Pamplona you will have gotten rid of anything you don't need. Buen Camino. Enjoy the walk.

    Merrel MOABs

Same as you. Once low cut MOABs, second time MOAB boots. Smartwool socks both times; changed socks everyday at mid day, without fail. No problems. Burning feeling on the soles of you feet cold be a diabetic symptom. Happens to a friend of mine, often. My guess is it's not the foot wear. Good luck.

    Can’t figure out windy maps!!

Really sorry for my misunderstanding. So much available it is hard to keep up at times. Get well soon.

    Can’t figure out windy maps!!

I use Windy, and it will show spots all over the world, not just my local area (wind 6.4kts, NE in Burgos now). But I do have an upgraded version which cost me about $30 (the most expensive app I've ever had). Windy is geared toward sailors and fishermen, and there may be better alternatives...

Carbon vs aluminum hiking poles: experiences and recommendations

I have the BD aluminum poles and I think they are great. No problems at all. I have been a professional light tackle fishing guide for 30+ years and have used carbon fiber rods for my clients and myself. Never had one snap, even in the hands of the worst fishermen you could imagine. I think you...

Issues with New Merrells for First Long Hike

I've worn Merrell Moab shoes and boots for years. Including two blister free Caminos. If you return the Flex Fit, try the Moab. That said, I love the Keens, and I would have them in a heartbeat, but my heels are too narrow for the Keens, and they will not work for me. My wife has the Keens and...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I think this dead horse is exhausted. I know I am.

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Right on, Simon. It is a pilgrimage because of what is in your heart, not your pack.

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Carry a Backpack or wear heavy Robes. Hmm, now that is an argument worth having. o_O

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I have a suggestion. Let's change the name of Sarria to Roncesvalles.

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I have a friend in Santander. He was born near Vilalba. He is in his 70's and has walked so many Caminos that he has lost count. He walks sections with his wife now, whenever they get a few days. They drive to a starting spot, park the car and begin their walk. When they reach a stopping point...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

If carrying "all my worldly goods" is a freeing experience, wouldn't carrying only the goods I need for the next 8 hours of my life be that much more freeing? And trusting my goods to a worldly servant of the Camino cannot be that bad. Transcendence is a goal for me (Camino or driving to the...

My Pack Is Too Heavy: Woe Is Me!

Oh, so true, so true. When we got home from our first Camino, the neighbors must have thought we were moving. We threw out, or gave away, all the non-essential essentials that cluttered our home life. I need to do it again. Amazing how little you really need to have a full experience. I'm...

My Pack Is Too Heavy: Woe Is Me!

Debbye, I feel your pain. If only we could have the experience before we go... I understand the money issue, but how will you feel when you abandon that stuff somewhere in the first 3 days. Trust me, you will. This is a lesson only learned by the doing (I was just like you, heck most of us...

    Frogg Toggs!

I agree with you about the usefulness and the value of Frogg Toggs. As a lifelong saltwater fisherman and now a full time fishing guide, I know their value first hand. As a September-October-November pilgrim, I'll opt for a heavier waterproof jacket. Being from Florida, I am not cold tolerant...

    The dreaded socks

Smartwool PHD socks. Four pairs, change as often as possible. Fix hot spot right away. No blisters.

    WARNING. simcardspain.es

In 2010 and 2012, I bought sim cards from simcardsspain.es, and had great results. In 2014, I bought one (Vodafone) and when I put it in my phone at Barajas I was shocked to find that either it was empty of funds, or was 'sucked dry' by something, immediately. Later I was able to find a Vodafone...

    Waterproofing Shoulder Straps with Wax

Camino Fever has set in. Don't worry about the straps. Have a great trip. Buen Viaje.

    Sock problem

Me too. I live and play in Central Florida, and wear them year-round. Plan on having enough to change socks at mid-day or when you stop for lunch. 4 or 5 pairs worked best for me. A worthwhile expense to protect for feet.

    Beard?

    Worked for me.
