KML tracks of all caminos - Instituto Nacional Geográfico

I just rewalked all three of the Portugués routes from Porto last fall, and the Coastal and the Senda Litoral from Porto has changed quite a bit. The building of new boardwalks and coastal paths are ongoing projects that makes routes clearer, easier and more waymarked. The Senda Litoral...

KML tracks of all caminos - Instituto Nacional Geográfico

I totally agree. The Camino paths are more fluid than one may think. The individual local powers that be, keep changing them, as they see fit, for improving the paths, creating a different path altogether to avoid highways, to take you into their town for amenities, despite a better path that...

Good addition to a baseball cap

Sorry to the fashion police, but I will wear baseball caps until the day I die. And I have used run-of-the-mill cowboy bandanas to service as the neck cover. I have even made the bandanas wet to cool me off, if needed! As for sandals and socks, that goes without saying! It's a must for the...

    Only Sandals in October?

The Sketchers held up wonderfully, for 16 more days walking! No blisters, no problems! Happy feet again!!

    Only Sandals in October?

OMG, I am on the Camino now, was using Hoka Anakapa hikers. While I tested them at home, apparently not enough, because my toes would burn like crazy after 10-12 km. And like you, there was plenty of room in the toe box. I had to mail them back home and get new shoes! I wore sandals for three...

    Phone holders for hiking pole

Not all the cases and separate clips are of the same size, so make sure that they are one and the same!

    Phone holders for hiking pole

I use an otter box case and clip for my phone. The clip part clips securely to the belt of my pack, in front. Very easy and immediate access for a quick photo whenever the mood strikes me!

    Immersion heater question

@Rodney Kent, you are right, that there are albergues with nothing on the Teresiana!! You are very wise to stock up with food, especially if you have special dietary needs!

    Hoka Hiker: Sky-line Float X

Good to know. Both my husband and I are going to use the Anacapa Breeze in Portugal in September. I will report back. The Skyline Float X looks interesting too! I didn't have that choice, but the drop is more, so it would be interesting to see how that would feel. The Skyline also has less...

My Experience with Hoka Challenger ATR 7s: A Camino Report

Great report, thank-you! I just bought the Hoka Anacapa Breeze and am heading back onto the Portugues, so your report is encouraging indeed. I have never bought Hoka's before, but am all too familiar with how the hobblestones in Portugal beat up my feet and legs! So, they should hold up!

    Sim cards

My only comment - perhaps it is time to update your phone to have eSIM capability? I will never regret swithching to it! But, I did already need a new phone. Although, I am sure there will be issues rear their ugly heads with this type SIM as well, eventually. So sad to hear of your trouble.

    Italy - phone sim?

If you are asking about an eSIM, (embedded, not physically changing out a card), I had absolutely no problem with Airalo, which is a third party vendor. I used it all over Sicily, and central Italy on the Camino di Francesco, and never, ever lost connectivity. So when I go to Italy again, I will...

Rainy forecast? Too humid for clothes to dry!

I feel your pain @TerriMartin!! We just did the Via di Francesco last fall in Italy, and every single day for 10 days we were putting on damp clothes in the morning to eventually dry from our body warmth. There were absolutely NO laundry options. As soon as our clothes dried during the walk, we...

    E SIM

@Liltravlr, an eSIM is different than a regular SIM card. Newer phones now have TWO sims, one PHYSICAL SIM and one EMBEDDED SIM which is necessary to get an eSIM. You will first need to find out if your phone has dual SIM capability. If it has only the physical SIM, you will have to remove that...

    E SIM

I liked Airalo too. For me it was easy to use, turning it on when I landed. No need to mess around with physical SIMS.

How to use Gronze: Website vs App

Thanks for the education. Interesting, I wonder if the Recorrido button is new, as I haven't used Gronze much lately and I remember the "Al Loro" button from past usage. Seems like they are constantly improving from the basics of yore.
