    A stupid washing thing..

I do the same but always take a small chunk of Mexican laundry bar (Zote) to hand wash socks!!

Hoka speed goat 5 vs hoka anacapa breeze also a sock question

Where did you find the best way to lace shoes? I used to have a photo display of the various ways to lace shoes, but the other year there was some weird flicker on my laptop screen and a number of things disappeared, including my lace-up info.

    Ryanair Carry-On

A few years ago, Ryanair in the fine print stated that if you weren't EU, you had to PRINT OUT your boarding pass (or they would do it for you for $50), so be sure to triple check all the fine print on their site. I don't know if that requirement is still in play, but as Bradypus mentioned...

Lesson learned: must unlock phone to use a European SIM Card (My Fail)

Hooray! I won't worry about it then--I can simply dial 112 if needed. Many thanks!!

Lesson learned: must unlock phone to use a European SIM Card (My Fail)

Glad it makes you happy. We in the US are stuck. If you know a work-around, we'd be happy to hear it. I even bought an iPhone SE to replace my beloved iPod (that 'disappeared' from church last March) and even though I bought it outright (not on payments or contract) there's still some nonsense...

    My Camino shopping

    Are they plastic or silicone?
  7. Mycroft

    No tech!!!

I admit to being somewhat of a Luddite. I don't have a phone and for years used an iPod while pilgrimaging to take photos, and check email occasionally--until someone at church walked off with my little darlin' at church last March. Apple stopped making iPods in May of last year, so thinking of...

    Equipment question!

I did the coastal route in 2019. I am old and creaky but did not need poles. I have found that the Camino provides a pole or poles or sturdy stick at times when needed. I would add that if I lived in Europe I most likely would bring poles but am not willing to risk putting mine in the belly of...

    Ultimate Dog Repellent

Don't you want to share those tips?

Mug or not? (and other kitchen ware)

I have a collapsible silicon cup. It has a cover if I want to carry something in it. I'd rather microwave silicon than plastic. And I do have a spork that I use often.

    (Even) wider brimmed walking hat

Ditto. I have used one of their hats for many years--I call it my umbrella hat because the brim sticks out so much.

Waterproof trail shoes. Yes or no?

Nowadays I always wear waterproof shoes. I have never had any problem with sweaty feet etc. Dry feet make me happy.

    Apple Air Tag

Oh no! Way too creepy. (Although having lost my iPod with All My Life on it a week ago I wish I had a Tag on it!)

    Apple Air Tag

Curious to know why you were searching for something 'buried deep in the back seat of a rental car.'

    Name on all my stuff?

As you can tell things 'disappear' whether or not your name is on them. However if you feel more comfortable putting an identifying mark on your clothing or equipment, go for it.

    Patches on my backpack?

The husband of a friend had a shoe repair shop. He kindly sewed patches onto my pack. He retired last year, so no more heavy duty sewing machine. Boo-hoo me.

    Cell phone sim cards

This is a tangential phone question: I see you are from Sta Barbara so I think you have heard of Tracfone. A few weeks ago I heard that if you have a Tracfone unlocked and switch the SIM card so the phone can be used in Spain for example, any remaining minutes one had on the phone through...

Need help cutting down on gear/weight in my pack 🙏

Thank you for mentioning this. I take it you mean the large food zip bags. If so, I will try these in 2023. For many years I bought Space Bags and while the originals of those worked great for me, when the company was gobbled up by whatever, the quality went way down. Since then I have been...

Spending time and money at IKEA so you don't have to!

    I support Katherine's imaginative aspect!!

    Waterproof shoes

I now use only waterproof shoes. I have good luck with some styles from Columbia and when I get back home I try to buy another pair of what worked well for me, and I can never find them!
