I wore out two pairs of Lone Peak 3.5, and since March I use the more recent Lone Peak 4.0.
Both pairs last more than 1200 Km before "retiring" them. The soles were still in good condition at the end.
About the uppers, a small crack appeared on the external sides of the tissue of the uppers of...
Forgive my poor knowledge of English. I totally agree with what you wrote. Thank you for your clarification.
And I especially like this detail you pointed out: "You like the feel of worn down shoes better than brand new ones. " Totally CORRECT, also for me!!!
In the experience of my team (and of...
I "slightly" agree with you. ;)
In my team we never use brand new shoes in competition. Surely the break-in is much more reduced nowadays, compared to the "old times".
But the the upper shoe, although made of soft and flexible canvas, and the sole, although made of elastic stuff, need some...
@davebugg Thanks! You spoke my mind 1000%.
P.S.
I ran and hicked in the past with the XA Pro 3D, before switching to Altra and Topo; they are - for me - wonderful (and fairly cheap) shoes.
That's the difference between to experience fullness, awareness, bliss and fun in a Camino and...
to walk mourning and weeping in this valley of tears (citation from "Hail Holy Queen").
In this video you can see how to correctly use all the "eyes". That's the standard way for running shoes.
So you have the maximum comfort and total control.
In low cost/fair quality sports items Decathlon rules in Europe. ;)
I would not recommend Lidl poles, because the blocking mechanisms are really cheap and fragile. I bought them as an emergency, years ago, and never used again. Avoid rucksacks too.
On the contrary, I found the Lidl trekking...
1) Adjustment.
It depends on your age, how athletic/fit you are, how much time you (have to) wear high heel shoes in daily life.
Walking barefoot or with slippers at home helps very much.
Do some stretching on the calves every day.
With soft progression, walk with your Altra in daily activities...
Topo Athletic Runventure-2: ten days and 180 Km later...
These shoes really rock me.
After a quite long break-in/acquaintance, walking and running stretches of 6 to 12 Km, yesterday I did a hike of 29 Km on the Alps, below the snow level.
I chose a trail with the largest variety of ground...
I would feel naked without duct tape in my equipment.
In my walks I used it a good deal of times, for me and other people to:
- fix a broken pole until next town.
- seal a torn cloak
- emergency repair of detached soles of low quality boots (people who wanted to save on shoes!!!)
- temporary...
Since a good deal of years I added to my load an apparently useless gadget, a PMR radio (similar to those used for FRS/GMRS in USA/Canada).
In the age of Wi-Fi and (nearly) ubiquitous cellular networks, a walkie-talkie could seem a piece of old junk, but I love the magic of connecting to other...
I am always fascinated by the variety of solutions that pilgrims use to carry water. And I love so much hearing the discussions about bottle vs camel bag ( and also, BTW, poles/no poles, trails shoes vs boots...) in the albergues and even while walking.
There is always something to learn. :cool...
Both Lone Peak and Runventure-2 are zero drop.
The former has a sole of 25 mm, and weighs 295 grams.
The latter has a sole of 19 mm, and weighs 270 grams.
Happiness is for me a new pair of shoes to test:
will these awesome Topo Athletic Runventure-2 be able to topple the Altra Lone Peak 3.5 from no. 1 position in my personal rank?
I will give you my answer in a few weeks, after a few hundreds of kilometers... Stay tuned!
Three items that I'm happy to say that so far - I cross my fingers - I never had the need of using:
an emergency whistle, an emergency blanket and a lighter.
@LesBrass Brass: About Salomon... I have quite broad feet, so I've always been attentive to choose comfortable shoes, although it's not so easy.
So, recently, when I tried a pair of Salomon GTX XA Pro, I couldn't believe that my feet loved them! :)
Wide enough for my toes, good sole grip even on...
