Hi
The one item I would never go without, that weighs nothing, doesn't have to be packed, is always available, will help your fellow pilgrims enjoy their own journey more and will make your camino ultimately the best experience you will have is a smile and an open mind :)
Just adding my own thoughts :-)
I own a Berghaus back-pack. I was lucky to find an independant seller who was also a keen walker and wild camper and who allowed me to test run number of packs until finding the one that suited me.
The make and model i settled on didn't suit the seller at all...
I agree with JohnnieWalker - goretex lined boots every time.
Stories of overheating feet can be heard about all walking shoes/boots when worn for hours, walking 20+ kilometers a day in hot weather. I always stop every couple of hours, take off my boots and let my feet AND boots air whilst i...

I feel Lynne's advice to 'live and learn' is what ultimately will sustain you.
I have walked (as so many here have) 1000's of kilometers over the years and nothing beats experience when determining what is best for your feet. A caveat to that is walk, walk and walk some more as...
I saw these gaiters today.

They cover your boots and are currently half price. For the money i am going to purchase a pair as they offer full boot and leg protection - ideal when walking in muddy conditions as well as in snow or heavy rain. They have a non slip sole too.

I was getting a little excited for a monent there Ivar lol.
More an April 1st posting lol.
"The stupid part comes in the execution. If you are wearing this to keep the rain off you and you decide to turn it into a tent, you will get all wet going outside to stake the thing down. I guess you...
Hi
Just a suggestion here. Would it be possible to have an Altus delivered to a spanish address such as a hotel you may stay in early on your Camino? (i would suggest the Luggage Storage although that could be as expensive as delivery to the US?)
Chris
Never had trouble drying goretex boots. Sure the outer dont dry as rapidly as some other boots, but as the inside never gets wet thats hardly a problem.
As for weight there are many lightweight types out there now and i have not noticed any extra heat from goretex. Used various boots over the...
Hi Sarah.
Are you walking the Camino Frances route?
If so and you walk your earlier months i will look out for you as i am walking the route mid march and april.
Good fortune and happy times on your journey and God keep you
Chris
Hi
I have a pair of Goretex walking boot style trainers. I tried both my actual shoe size and a size larger in the shop where i purchased them. The shop was in an undercover shopping centre and i was able to walk around in both pairs (no - not at the same time lol) for an hour before settling...

If i undertand your concerns correctly it is more about having to carry your special dietary requirements that you are considering a trailer of some sort rather than being unable to carry a 'normal' loaded back pack?
If that is indeed the case then like Annie, maybe there are others...
I read a book by Gerard W. Hughes "In Search of a Way" describing his pilgrimage to Rome some years ago. In it he describes how he took a 'trailer' made by a friend for the purpose of not having to carry i heavy back pack.
I think the gist was he regretted it as it often broke or got bogged...
Hello Nino
I too have been looking into the subject of phoning home from Spain.
Ivar is certainly correct with his advice on using Skype as a possibilty and my own research in these forums and elsewhere indicate there are plenty of WiFi hotspots along the route.
I also looked into the...
