Check out the Osprey line, they offer a variety of back packs in various sizes. Excellent quality. Get it properly fitted by a salesperson who knows how to fit a back pack.

    Socks (i hate cold feet)

Buying the right socks and walking shoes/boots for your Camino are critical purchases. Socks, go for a high percentage (70% plus) of merino wool, look at Smartwool, IceBreaker brands or equivalent...and mid weight ( for comfort and cushioning). These brands are more expensive than many, but...

Pole Tip Protectors - A Serious matter - There are tips and tips

I have also used Leki poles on my four Caminos, and have found the Leki branded tip protectors are the most durable. I put a new set on at the start of the Camino and take a spare set...usually I do not need to change protectors. The downside with Leki protectors is they seem difficult to...

Packing Toiletries for Lightweight Travel on the Camino de Santiago

Hi, get two or three small plastic squeezable tubes from any travel or outdoor store, fill them with shampoo, conditioner, some liquid soap, and you are covered. Also purchase a travel size tube of toothpaste. Hair brush, tooth brush. I also take a face cloth...and a ziplock bag for it in case...

    Sleeping bag

Hi, Yes, you should take a lightweight down sleeping bag. I have taken one on the four Caminos I have walked, and have found I needed it, not often, but at least half a dozen times. Some Albergues do not offer blankets, or the blankets on offer on less than optimal. Sometimes you will...

Icebreaker Merino Shirts - Now a Blend - Alternatives?

If you live in North America, you might keep an eye on Costco in the early fall, they usually sell a long sleeved Merino wool shirt in various sizes and colour for anywhere from 20 to 30 dollars. I have been buying them for years, and they are excellent. Made of New Zealand wool, they stand up...

Pole Tip Protectors - A Serious matter - There are tips and tips

Like you I have tried a number of different types, with mixed success. I have Leki poles, and have found the Leki rubber tip protectors to be the best for longevity...but they are very difficult to find. The Leki tips will last a Camino.

    Buying SIM card in Sevilla

In fall of 2018 I purchased Movistar SIM in Seville, daughter went with Orange. Movistar offered 28 days for 15e, coverage was good but no grace period, and when it came time to renew, ( we were on the VLDP) , their stores are few and far between. If you are from North America, you cannot do...

Do I need gloves if I am using a Trekking Pole

I have never used gloves, I like the shape and feel of cork handles of my Leki poles. Maybe the type of handle on the pole would influence whether gloves are needed.

    Post-Camino shoe observations

Hi, no, I have not tried the Targhee III, and I see some others are not impressed with the fit. I just posted that I am going to check out some trail runners for my upcoming Camino, feeling a little apprehensive about leaving my tried and trusted Keenes, but you are right, the IIs are hard to...

Help selecting Boots for our Walk.

What a great discussion. I have used the Keene Targhee II Mid boot on three Caminos, bought a new pair for each one, and found them to be an extent boot. I am planning to do the VLDP again starting in Sept., and am intrigued by the points made by Dave Bugg and others to try out some trail...

    Post-Camino shoe observations

To each their own seems to apply here. I will stick with my Targhee hiking boots, proven winners in my experience.

    Post-Camino shoe observations

I should have added I take along a pair of Keene hiking sandals for days end. I love them, very nice walking sandal and very light.

    Post-Camino shoe observations

I have walked three Caminos and always in Keene Targhee hiking boots. I think ankle support is critical on the rougher sections, and the Targhees are very light, comfortable, and a good fit for my wide feet. I have never had a blister. I did the VDLP in 2016, doing it again this fall, going to...
