My coat does have the metallic lining and that may be the problem, making me sweat, rather than leaks.
The next time it rains, and that shouldn't be too long here in Belfast, I'll go out and stand in the garden. I'll look a bit of an eejit but if I'm still dry after 10 minutes I'll know that...
I've a Ferrino raincoat that I've carried in my pack more often than worn on various Caminos.
Back home I wore in in a thunderstorm and ended up absolutely soaked.
The seams are stitched and, I guess, would probably be glued first. Could this adhesive have perished and be letting the rain in...
I used 'mariposa' in my post as a colourful contrast to 'dowdy'. Nothing more was intended. When I read the word has an ugly slang meaning I edited my post and replaced it with Beau Brummel.
To save anyone having to Google, he was a famous 19th Century English dandy.
You could buy an Opinel knife in SJPdP. They close like a penknife but there's a metal ring where the blade meets the handle which locks it when in use. I think the smallest one, with a blade of about 7cm, costs about €6.
The machine that connects your card to the hotel's bank took so long I eventually paid with cash. I hoisted my pack onto my back and went up to my room. It was only when I got there that I realised I'd forgotten my Lexi walking pole. When I got back down to reception it was gone.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
We'll be starting from Porto in mid April and I think we'll encounter rain at some stage. One of our group has been told mesh trail shoes make for easy walking and I thought she'd enjoy both comfort and dry feet if she wore the waterproof socks...
Walking a Camino gives male pilgrims the opportunity to see what they'd look like growing a beard.
Shavers, electric and otherwise, would then be redundant. And think of the burden lessened.
Are you casting aspersions on the honesty of some pilgrims?
Incredible, simply incredible. :-))
In Roncesvalles earlier this year I had a 'new lamps for old' experience. Someone took my cheap poles and left in their place an expensive looking set.
I didn't take them but bought a wooden staff...
I like to carry my passport, credit cards, and money in a securely zipped trouser pocket.
I don't like the thought of carrying them in a 'bum bag' as there's a chance I might lose or forget it.
If I ever forget my trousers it will be time to call an end to my walking.
I stumbled and fell onto a cow pat while walking the Camino Primitivo. I removed one of the detachable legs to wash it but the plastic zip had given up the ghost and I couldn't get it back together.
I'm looking for recommendations for trousers. It's clear to me now that the pair I've been wearing were the wrong ones.
They don't need zip off legs but do need lots of pockets. A few of those should have secure, metal toothed, zips.
I've been caminoing so hard recently that my kit is starting to fall to bits. A few days back one of my trouser legs fell off. The zip that allows you to convert them to shorts broke.
I thought to walk with a Masonic look, one leg exposed, but decided not to and removed the other leg for...
