Like boots, you need to try the packs with a full load to see how it works with your body and not just on a flat terrain. You need to see how it works over different terrains like the types you are going to find on your Trip.
Here at REI, they will fit a pack to your body, and the last time...
There are 2 Brands of packs that I like a lot. Osprey and Gregory. I gave my older Atmos to my youngest son and he has used it extensively during his world travels. My Osprey is the Talon 22 for day trips and for traveling around. I bought my Talon at a REI garage sale for less than 1/2 price...
My 2 cents. You can't go wrong with an Osprey pack, my 2 preferred brands are Osprey and Gregory.
My wife took the Gregory Z-38 and she loved the pack.
IMHO, it is a pilgrimage with all its trials and tribulations. But I think it has become more of a check item in your bucket list and/or a cheap vacation. I understand if you are physically you cannot catty a pack but you don't have to carry everything and travel light.
My 2-cents comments.
My wife and I did the Camino a couple of years ago. I had set a maximum weight goal (skin off) and allow some weight for daily snacks/food that I knew I was going to eventually carry.
After trying several packs at our local REI store, we picked the Gregory Jade Z38 for my...
A late update.
I got a Verizon Samsung SIII, according to their tech support people the phone is already unlocked and only needs a Spanish SIMM and no need for their roaming (expensive) data package. But it did not work as a smartphone.
I got a Vodafone SIMM card in Sarria and at their store...
My wife tried the Golite Jam 35 and did not like it, she did like her Gregory Jade 38 a lot
I took my Golite Jam 50 (Camino Frances) and carried over 20 Lbs confortably, I saw a German Pilgrim using the smaller Golite and he liked it.
In retrospect if I had know how bad the Camino was due to...
My wife tried the GoLite Jam 35 and did not like the frameless pack, she went back to the Gregory Jade 38.
Depending on what you plan to carry and how tight you pack it, you can probably use the Jade 34 or even the Jade 28
She really liked the pack, lots of pockets, 3 ways to load it...
My early choices were the Gregory Z40 (40 Liters) and the Gregory Jade Z38 for my wife. I then tried the GoLite Jam 50 and the Jam 35 for my wife, they are both frameless and very light. My wife did no like the GoLite so she is taking the Jade Z38.
The GoLite's are very light because they don't...
Got the GoLite Jam 50 and started checking it out.
It is a light pack but not flimsy, the couple of other benefits is that the belt pockets are big enough to put snacks and other items (with the Gregory Z40 I needed to add an add-on pouch), a surprisingly loud whistle in the chest strap (one...
We are only doing the last 100+ Km from Sarria on, right now our goal is 10Kg's total off-body weight and 7Kg's on the packs. We are also allocating a week to travel the section, allowing for some side tours and/or last moments whims to stop somewhere.
We bought the GoLite's straight from their...
Darn it, I went to check the GoLite Jams. they are now sold directly online and they have a sale.
$99.99 for the 35L!! and only 770g. They were Backpacker's Magazine Editor''s Choice. I may buy it and try to sell my wife's Gregory

All depends on the pants, My zip-offs are about 395g, the regulars are 350g and if I take the superlight North Face they are 280g.
We are also taking Gaiters to keep the lower legs (could be a problem with the Ponchos) from getting rain or mud.
I have them both, normally I use the convertible pants for spring through fall Camping/hiking/backpacking in the Sierras, Regular Pants for Winter Camping.
So far the winter weather in Northern California has been unusally dry and warm, temps during our training hike has been as high as...
In my quest to slash weight as much as I can I am in need of feedback about zip-off (convertible) pants.
I normally use them for hiking and backpacking because of their versatility, but they are a tad heavier than regular hiking pants.
Since we are traveling from April 22 through April 29...
Yes, It looks like it is going to be a PITA to get it out of the bag. Since I have 2 unused (currently) side water bottle pockets in my pack I may want to see if they fit there.
After some research and looking at price, availability and future use we ended up with the Gregory Packs. Mine is the Z-40 and my wife's is the Jade 38, a bit heavier than I wanted. Originally we were looking at the GoLite Jam series.
Thanks
After looking at the other options and getting feedback from the Peregrinoteca.com guys, we orderered the Ferrino Trekker ponchos from Amazon and got them.
I don't know about the Altus but the Ferrino's are a bear to stuff in their little carry-on pouches. I am thinking about ditching...
