    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Hi everyone....apologies on my disappearance, I have been busy hiking in various countries around the world and have not received alerts to posts on this thread. I would say that a lot of questions sent my way have already been answered and your Caminos already walked but to answer cclara's...

Merino Wool socks VS Coolmax socks

I found my secret to be (and the secret I pass on to fellow pilgrims) is... Thin, coolmax liner sock - close to the skin, wicks moisture away from the skin Mid weight merino wool hiking sock - Still allows moisture to wick away but gives you warmth and layering The two layers together rub...

    Electronics question.....overwhelmed!

Also, if you DO want to take a small simple phone that is unlocked in Europe for emergencies then let me know and I'll happily gift you one. Don't go spending hundreds of dollars/pounds signing up to a new phone....save the money for more important things :)

    Electronics question.....overwhelmed!

Hi Caminomatto...and all the other wonderful people here :) Can I come at you from a different angle if I may? Lets break this down to as simple as it can be...just as the Camino is supposed to represent. Yes, we are surrounded with technology every day (a recent survey discovered that the...

An in-depth review of the Osprey Exos 48 backpack

Hi everyone, Annelise, you're right, the top loading of these packs can be a pain, I guess I just got used to the routine. Besides, for the lightweight hiker, I guess it is thought that you wouldn't have too many items anyway. In my experience, once I unpacked the tent, put all my clothes...

An in-depth review of the Osprey Exos 48 backpack

Hi Mike, That was my hope and to see they have over-addressed was a relief. The new straps and hips are wonderfully comfortable now.

An in-depth review of the Osprey Exos 48 backpack

I noticed that there were many requests for gear recommendations on these forums and so I thought I would share my experience with the Osprey Exos 48 litre pack as a possible choice for your own camino. The link below take you to my dropbox where you can download a long, honest review with...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Consider lightweight ventilated hiking shoes. Surely an insurance company wouldn't deny your claim if you wore sandals! Thatd be a good fight in court especially when some outdoor companies make specific hiking sandals.

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Hi Gerard, I mean, you could try what you suggest but if your body and your feet were good the last time, why risk a change? It's difficult to find Merrell Moab mid boots WITHOUT waterproof, especially in shops. You , may have to order direct. If its 70% aesthetics and 30% confidence of your...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Hi CaminoKris, I've been away from this topic for a while but saw you asked me specifically so I'll try and advise. First of all, May is a great time to go, not too wet hopefully (but who knows with European weather these days?!). I would look towards a soft, mid boot as the heavy duty ones...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Hi Valeria, Im sorry, I don't think I mentioned repairs for vibram soles, unless i've been 'sleep-foruming' again! However, it is possible. These guys are great and based in the UK http://www.lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk/walking_boot_repairs.htm My concern if you have chosen gore-tex is when...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

I second that. Superfeet or softer, bouncier sorbathane double strike insoles.

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Hi lisette, Its very rare to find a non goretex leather boot, but if you do, bear in mind that leather is a natural water resistant material and usually a leather shoe is unlikely to have much stitching. This in turn traps that moisture. So, if I had a choice it'd always be fabric. Leather is...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Oh and for mid may and june gore-tex won't really be needed. I'm walking a section of the Camino Catalan from Monday and it's 23 degrees and pure sunshine :) and this is only mid April.

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

The salomon xa pro shoes are a light weight trail running shoe, quite supportive but quite a narrow fit. Ok for narrower footed people but watch out for that swelling on the fleshy outside of the foot. Reports on the durability of the sole are not as good as vibram, especially on these xa pros...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

It's the old grey matter that'll need strengthening up. When the mind quits, the body follows right along after :)

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Sorry Stelrey, I'm not much of a doctor so can't really give any advice on how to do this but could suggest, in your case, to look into footwear that is a lightweight 'mid' boot that is not waterproof. They are hard to find but Merrell (again) has these...

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

All good outdoor shops should have liner socks and make sure they are made of COOLMAX fabric. This is important to wick moisture away. They do have a percentage of nylon in actually so that's not such a bad idea.

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Socks are sold separately. You could wear the liners alone but the constant shock of 33 days of walking with no cushioning will give you terrible pains. I would always wear one pair of liners and one pair of medium cushioned socks with a percentage of merino wool.

    Anyone need footwear/foot advice?

Wow, a few questions to get through! :) Before I answer specifics, sojourner is correct in that weight has something to do with keeping feet happy. Think about it, the only part of your body that is in contact with the ground is those two things at the end of your legs supporting all the weight...
