How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

This is how pilgrims go. 😁

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

My pack weighed 10 kilos and I didn't use a baggage service. I know some people have to. This business of how light can I go seems to me to be a race to the bottom, why not just go Reacher on it and just bring a toothbrush in your pocket, forget about getting into trouble with weather conditions...

    Down jacket or No?

If it's actual down I wouldn't bring it, if it gets wet it's hard to dry and can end up lumpy. Manmade filling is better.

Waterproof trail shoes. Yes or no?

You won't have to get into any streams unless you want to but the crocs will be good for wearing around in the evening and for the shower.

Looking for a High-Res Map of Spain.

Why not buy a paper map or series of paper maps and dot those. You will have to buy large scale maps if you want to go to trail level.

chatGPT suggested packing list - just for fun

I asked the wise men at my local watering hole what I should pack for my Camino, after pondering on their advice I decided that the local is not the best place to get advice and I decided to join the forum, still not sure which was best. 😊

Gore-Tex in September's First Week? (Sarria)

September is usually a good month weather wise, trail runners should be ok for that stretch.

    Merino wool socks wrecked?

I have washed all my merino gear in a regular 40c wash for the last 10 years and have had no problems, I don't tumble dry them. Any problems I have with them are normal wear and tear.

Is a 4G phone enough in Spain?

One slot for the SIM and one for the SD card, they say dual SIM but it's not.

Is a 4G phone enough in Spain?

    In short, no.

In the USA? A Favor. Sorry to ask.... (re gadget to clip phone to walking stick)

it appears to be a selfie gadget that clips on to the messy end of your stick. I have seen ones that screw into the handle of the walking stick too.

    New backpack strange.

Just another one of the many Facebook, Twitter gimmick ads IMO. Stick to what you know that actually works.

    What not to bring

Or eat cucumber, full of electrolytes and easily got.

    What not to bring

Blister/first aid kit I used on other pilgrims, I also gave away all my electrolyte packs to a few who got sick from dehydration.

    Men's pants recommendation

We have always heard Americans use the word fanny pack, sure it has different connotations in some places but in this day and age we need to get past that. Now back to the topic of the OP.

The electric coil changed my life on the Camino!

It might just be the overheat switch, let it cool down and try again.

    How to get weight down

Just plug in and charge. If you look at your phone charger it will say Input 110v -240v Output 5.1v or suchlike so it doesn't matter what voltage supply you use.

    How to get weight down

Before you consider lightening your load too much have a read of the thread linked below. If you are starting from SJPP don't get into trouble by leaving essential gear after you just to have a superlight pack...

    How to get weight down

5.3k is incredible. Forget the 10% rule, it's an inaccurate point of discussion. Buen Camino.

    Take clothes or buy them?

I don't think that the"Reacher" model will work very well on Camino, its just not practical.
