What a great idea. Thank you.

    But what about the handicapped?

I'm a veteran pilgrim, but have recently suffered an injury that has left me handicapped. I can walk, but with great difficulty. Still, I find that I'm unable to give up on my love of Caminos. I'm going to try for another one, maybe next year if I can get my legs to work well enough. My...

Walking with AVN ( avascular necrosis)

I'm 66, way overweight, two total knee replacements and a five level laminectomy. My 5th Camino (from Lisbon this time) starts next Sunday. I've found that if I walk to my limitations I do just fine. Not too far, not too fast. I hope I meet you on the path sometime.

    Calorie Calculator for hiking.

I've always felt that my credential was, in addition to being a pilgrim passport, a license to eat. Counting calories is something I leave at home.

    Spine Fusion Adventure

Have any of you Camino veterans walked after a back fusion? I'm 4 weeks pre-op for a major back fusion operation and I'm wondering how it will impact my next Camino (#5). For those of you in the know it's an L2 - S1 I interbody fusion. I'm not new to surgery having had two total knee...

New foot injury -requesting advice - do I cancel my Camino?

Public transport is very good along the CP if your foot gets tired. The Sende Litoral route ( right next to the beach) is for the most part a flat walk, and very beautiful. I'd go for it and if you cant make it, take the bus or bail and get a refund through your travel insurance. Good luck.

    Walking after knee surgery?

Hi, I just got back one week ago from the CP - Senda Litoral starting in Porto. I have two TKR's, one done this last January and one done last April. As others have said, your knees are not like any others and you need to be sensitive to them. In my case I was very interested in doing more...

Too soon? Camino Portuguese 5 months after total knee replacement.

I'm starting this thread as future advice for others who are contemplating a Camino after knee replacement. In my case, I've had two this year, one in January and one in April. I'm leaving on Wednesday, Porto to Santiago and I feel good. I have been very aggressive in my post op therapy to...

Walking The Camino Without Training. Fool's Errand?

Go for it. As one elderly pilgrim said, "not too fast, not too far". I did my first Camino (CP) last year. 60 years old, 275lbs. Averaged 12 miles per day and had no problems. .

Bone Spur May Trip Me Up Plan B?

Hi Al, I've been reading your posts on the forum for some time now and I'm honored that you have replied to my post. This is my first Camino and due to my work schedule it's a short one. My foot problem has me shortening it further and may knock me out completely but I'm going to press on until...

Bone Spur May Trip Me Up Plan B?

Thanks Physio, As you can imagine it's difficult to decide what to do given all of the considerations. I suspect that you more than most understand all of the related issues. I've ordered a pair of relatively fancy forearm crutches that review well for rough terrain walking. I'm going to do an...

Bone Spur May Trip Me Up Plan B?

With 9 days before departure I've developed a bone spur on my heal that has sidelined me. My plan is to keep all of the weight off (on crutches) until my departure date and then take it a mile at a time. As of today I can't walk on it but I'm hoping that it will heal as fast as it appeared. I'm...
