Hospitales was probably the most memorable day of my walking Camino adventure so far. In my world, a day not to be missed unless the weather is bad. Take advice from locals regarding this, but physically not tough, but as previously said, a long day 7 or 8 hours maybe, can't remember. The final...
sorry got my towns wrong, started from Campiello to start the Hospitales and walked to Berducedo (not Grandas de Salime - that's a day's walk for Beatrice). I am hopeless at routes and am always amazed at how I arrive where I need to be - Ho hum!!
@Kiwi-family thanks for the wonderful photos which bring back memories of my own Hospitales walk last year. It is something I will not forget. The big thing was the weather, it was perfect, not sure I personally would have attempted it in fog or heavy rain (or snow conditions). In Berducedo, the...
With any luck you will not be alone as many from El Norte join the Primitivo at Oviedo. At least that was my experience last year walking from Oviedo albeit in Sept.
Buen Camino and enjoy the wonderful Primitivo.
Hi Peter, well I had not planned to walk El Salvador but it was one or two of the veterans of this forum who recommended it and I was so glad they did! First of all it starts in Leon which is a great city and it finishes in Oviedo again another wonderful city. It is such a quiet Camino compared...
Welcome Peter. I really recommend the Primitivo, it´s one of my favourite Caminos so far (El Salvador being most favourite). Try and include an extra day for Oviedo, it´s a wonderful city especially in September during the festival. As for walking, there is a steep climb at the beginning and...
I walked the wonderful Hospitales route last September and don't remember encountering any bulls? The only caution I would give for this fabulous walk is the weather. If the locals and the weather say "no", don't do it, but if you get the weather and the chance, do it! I believe it was one of...
Thanks to BarbyLivie for posting such a great post and to all the fantastic replies. I have only been a member for a couple of years and recently was becoming a little disheartened with it, but this thread has been the best I have ever read and my heart has filled with love as I have read the...
You will LOVE it! It's just wonderful. The route, the people, the hospilateros especially. I found the Salvador a great "leg stretch" for the Primitivo. And if you get the weather you might consider the Hospitales walk on the Primitivo - definitely a " if it's okay"(I believe)
And you must...
Fabulous walk but you do tend to start each day with a climb and finish ......with a climb! But that said being able to walk the Hospitales route on a clear day will always be one of my cherished Camino memories.
Enjoy this wonderful route and if you have time, as I was advised, try the...
Definitely the Hospitales route for me, but then I had the weather - a glorious day in late Sept this year and only when I stopped near the top for something to eat did I get a bit chilled but was fine once I started walking again. It took me 8 hours from Corniello to Berducedo and of all the...
You have more or less described my same experienceof the Salvador and Primitivo this Sept. I would repeat both in a heartbeat especially the fabulous Salvador. Your post is lovely.
Yup, the Primitivo was one of my toughest and most beautiful walks since starting walking on Caminos. I agree with Anemone del Camino, I think one of the factors that makes the highly recommended Hospitales day, is the weather. I was so blessed to have an almost perfect day to do it and will...
