Yes I walked from about mid September on. Summer walking is no joke! I grew up in Arizona and so always was able to deal with heat. After being away for about a year and a half came back and was going to hike a local peak with a friend. It was may and not even 100, we only had been hiking about...
I loved the Madrid! I walked in fall 2017, and I like to think it was almost like walking the Frances awhile ago. I used the Johnnie walker guide. I only met 7 pilgrims. There were plenty of adventures of trying to track down who had the key to the albergue, I was the only Pilgrim several times...
That's interesting, when I stayed that was the way I entered/left. The glass doors in front of the kitchen bathroom were all blocked by scaffolding, I my memory serves. I need to go back to see all the work!
I loved staying at the palace, definitely a must if you can. It felt amazing to have a key to an actual palace! And you can wander around and check out the place. I was all alone when I stayed in the fall of 2017, not sure if they are still doing construction but so this may not apply, but i...
I walked in Sept of 2017, and always felt safe. I had quite a few nights alone in albergues more than was expecting really., It's a great camino I would love to do it again!
I enjoyed your trip report Thanks!
It's good to here they are letting pilgrims in earlier at tres cantos as when I was there we had to wait for ever to be let in and then kicked out so early!
I really loved this camino. I wish I would have kept better notes, I'm terrible at it using a device, I should have stuck to paper. so this is not going to be very exact more just general feelings and thoughts. It's has taken me longer than I would have liked to get to this. I'm seriously...
Ah, I was there in late Sept 2017. I will say even at 25, it probably would have been a good value. Maybe it was slower then? I hardly met any pilgrims. When are you planning to go?
@Kiwi-family It was the duque de osuna. They had a special pilgrim rate, but it didn't show on booking.com I called the property directly, it was nice, and in such a lovely town.
You are probably aware, but I loved the church of Santiago in medina del rioseco. From what I remember it's not open on Monday, I ended up taking a rest day to see it, but it was worth it. I loved the whole town actually. You must take the tour to see that church and also the santa maria one. I...
I went last Sept, I took a 2L and it was fine. There was some long hot days, and if I go in that time of year again I would probably take my 3L, but I like to drink lots of water. I agree with @davebugg.
So it is very well marked. But as someone who is a bit of a nervous nellie, I downloaded wikiloc on my cell and paid the 5 euros for 3 months access once I got to Spain. There are tracks previos people have made. It was a great comfort to me as I'm not the best with directions and i was alone...
Hi,
I'm on the Camino Madrid right now. I would not stay at the albergue in tres cantos again, mostly due to the hours, the police unlock it at 1030 pm and kick you out at six. It is only for three people, but another can suffer on the couch. I was there on a weekend and all hotel s I saw were...
I
Just wanted to break up the km's of the first day. So I planned on walking that first bit in the day I arrived but my hostal is in the center than take a metro out to where I stopped walking the next day and carry on to tres cantos.
I really am a very anxious person in general, so right now I'm super anxious! I'm planning on doing your suggestion where I walk from the church to the start of the arrows on one day, then take the metro to there the next, and end in tres cantos. After that I have not decided ...see how the body...
Well, just when I decided to get a refurbished Samsung, they are temporarily out of stock. And won't get here before I leave. There looks to be some fairly cheap other brands of gsm phones, but I think I just get a cheap non smart phone after all.
My flight gets in fairly early in the morning...
