If you're a purist you'll walk the whole way. Maybe even start tomorrow for that reason. But I can tell you that you won't miss much by taking the cercanias at least to Fuencarral if not to Tres Cantos. The part from TC to Colmenar Viejo is the first one that really puts you on the Camino. Maybe...
Thinking of places on CdM that would need proper albergue few towns/villages comes to mind:
- Tres Cantos (pretty soulless town but although there is kind of municipal "albergue" this first natural stage from Madrid Centro would definitely deserve one),
- Colmenar Viejo (much prettier than TC...
Those creeks between TC and CV are not really white water rivers, their beds are quite shallow so the worst that can happen to you is to get completely wet or to hit something while falling into the water. But of course if you try to wade through them immediatelly after few days of rain it can...
In second half of April 2018 there were 7 arroyos to cross. 3 of them without stepping stones and one stone missing in one crossing. They can be quite wide apart but at my 180cm I had no problems using them.
As far as "the higher route" goes I think I know what this is all about. In 2014 I've...
I was staying there last spring for the second time (first in 2014). Nothing really changed but they refreshed it a little bit. No smell of a mould anymore so I guess hospitalero/a opens the doors and windows more often or maybe there is more pilgrim traffic. New paint on the walls, small...
Even with some suggestions from the forum discussions written on a piece of a paper you can walk CdM without much trouble.
For Fuenfria Pass (in May) you can never be really sure because it depends on the weather but usually the snow is longer on the ground on the north side which is much less...
Three restaurants in the village. And small tienda. Kitchen with microwave in albergue.
I ate last spring in La Alcaldesa, good and plenty for the price...
It sounds like a plan :)
No problem walking in the albergue Zamarramala late because someone from the Ayto. de Segovia will be there until 7pm to check you in.
Buen Camino!
There is a highway hostal 2km out of the center of Sta.Maria la Real de Nieva:
https://www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/segovia/santa-maria-real-nieva/hostal-avanto
As you come on Camino to the main square with the church you should turn left and walk straight for those 2km to get there.
Some days are just like that. Aimless. Happened to me last spring in Segovia too. But I wasn't complaining while sitting in afternoon sun outside the bar just few meters away from the aquaduct watching the main pedestrian drag and it's life. Priceless :)
Next time you can start in Guadalajara on Camino Mendocino and join Madrid in Manzanares.
Here's link to excellent thread by @NualaOC about it:

If you are not a purist anything is possible :D
I think your best bet would be to check infrastructure on these two sites:

Also forum member @JLWV can be of great help because he's very much into Amigos de...
Completely agree with you on how nice the locals are. The Madrid and Invierno stand out big time in this aspect for me. Although not everybody knew that the Caminos de Santiago going through their town/village they were all extremely welcoming. One more reason to return someday :)
Yes C4 is the one from Puerta del Sol. Easy Peasy. I think it's a good choice to return back to Madrid instead of pushing on that first day. A lot of tarmac too.
Hi, Sara,
If you are not a purist you could either shorten your first day from Madrid by starting at Plaza de Castilla or even take a Cercanias to Tres Cantos. Colmenar Viejo is just a short but beautiful walk from it and with cheaper overnight options.
What about Ingles and extension to Muxia/Fisterra afterwards?
Enjoy the last day of Madrid. I really love this Camino. Will you stay in Grajal de Campos albergue? Recommended!!!
Buen Camino!
