Hi,
Just in case you need to refill, make sure to know the INN (International Nonproprietary Name) of your medication.
French equivalent : DCI (Dénomination Commune Internationale).

Hi, in fact the descent to the river leads to Monistrol-d'Allier.
Saint-Privat is on the top of a hill.
and Monistrol is on the river, after a bridge built by Gustave Eiffel
This being said, Le Puy - St-Privat is less strenuous, by far, than SJPdP-Roncesvalles, but is a significant stage...

Hi,
A bit of caution, from the "Vieux Crayon" site :
E-books : https://www.levieuxcrayon.com/11-nos-e-books : "Aucun produit disponible pour le moment"
= "No product available right now" (i.e. 2023 issue not yet available).

Hi,
There used to be a single book for the Le Puy-SJPP stages. I guess the content has extended, leading to two separate volumes, as mentioned by Jouffroy47.
And one more for the Célé valley and Rocamadour alternatives.
Sure!
Some more info is useful for the various alternatives.
And beware of GR crossings: in Varaire, you may shift to GR36 if you don't pay attention
Hi,
A bit of luck for you to be in Le Puy on August 15 : a very special day, as expected in a city dedicated to Mary. Street processions, displaying the famous "black virgin", etc.

Hi,
From Le Puy to SJPdP, the only place where I had to use my hands for one or two steps in some kind of "climbing" was at the exit of Cahors, a steep cliff next to the Pont Valentré (on the left of this picture). Walking on the road would avoid this section.
Getting out of Conques is also...
Hi,
There are several French diets, rather than a single one.
Meals served to pilgrims/hikers on the Chemin du Puy tend to:
1 - bring much energy (you neeed it)
2 - recall local traditional meals of the various areas.
With some over-simplification:
. sausages and lentils from Le Puy to...
Hi,
Your plan is correct and rather conventional. Maybe somewhat on the "fast track" side. Be aware that some of the stages, especially the second one into Saugues are more than hilly, with kilometers looking more than 1,000m! As the saying goes "Auvergne is a tough country, with more ascents...
The river was called the Olt in the Occitan language, used in the South of France.
Lot is the equivalent in "standard/modern" French. Easier to pronounce ?
The specialists call this change a metathesis. Another example is "formage" becoming "fromage".
Hi Chanina,
Between Espalion and SJPdP, we stopped in the following cities, for a rest day after some 10 days of walking :
- Figeac (nice city, Musée Champollion...)
- Moissac (abbey)
- Navarrenx (nice walled city).
Not sure. In my Miam-Miam Dodo (2014), the direct way to Livinhac is a mentioned as as "shortcut" ("raccourci" in French).
Maybe a confusion as :
"Conques direct to Livinhac" is longer than "Conques to Decazeville"
but shorter than "Conques to Decazeville to Livinhac".
Good to know that the...
BTW, Navarrenx is one of the "plus beaux villages de France" (nicest villages of France, a label).
Meeting the local Saint-James association is possible every evening. We did.
