    Rocamadour Variant itinerary

There are certainly far fewer services on that route than on the rest of the Via Podiensis. I asked my host in Vers why it seemed so deserted - like whole small towns that were pretty much closed, no cafes, no people to be seen. He said that there were a number of factors. It's very hard to get...

    Rocamadour too many tourists?

Greetings! I did the Le Puy with the Rocamadour variant this past spring. I left the GR65 at Figeac, and rejoined it between Vers and Cahors. The route that someone posted above was a bit daunting with not enough services for me. I went...

    Too soon to second Camino?

I have never walked the CF or any route in Spain. Just the Podiensis. Last time from Le Puy to Roncesvalles (strongly recommend doing the crossing from SJPdP - you will find people returning that night to SJPdP to share a taxi with!), but from everything I have heard the Podiensis is quieter...

Going guideless on the Le Puy?

I just looked thru the HvC pamphlet and my credential, trying to remember what the exception was. I think I made an error, because I remember all the HvC gites very fondly. When I walked a portion of the Via Podiensis in 2019, my friend and I just picked up a free pamphlet from the Amis de...

Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

FYI, most pilgrims doing "the full Le Puy" end in Roncesvalles. I didn't know when I started, and planned to end in SJPdP, and I am so glad I had another day to cross the Pyrenees - it was a spectacular leg, and a great way to finish the journey.

Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

Indeed! I was about to make this point. Perhaps that's the difference between being on the Chemin with a decent command of French and not. I took the Rocamadour varient, and those five-ish days was the only time I heard people referred to as hikers, and where "Bon Chemin" became less used, but...

Going guideless on the Le Puy?

It’s so funny you say that. « C’est tout plat » became a bit of a joke amongst the folks I passed. Because it was never flat, but you would hear that all the time. So, to set expectations, I would say there are hills and challenging bits all along with the hardest and hilliest being in the first...

Going guideless on the Le Puy?

BTW, the Michelin is only about 0.5 cm thick. I don't know if it's the one people are calling "useless" since it only lists a few actual gites, and mostly gives you a good idea of your next step in terms of what's available ahead in terms of services, and how much elevation you can expect. Here...

Going guideless on the Le Puy?

Walked Le Puy to SJPdP from April 3 to May 9 this year. It was AMAZING. I didn't use a guide, but had the Wise Pilgrim Via Podiensis App, AllTrails for nav, and discovered a great network early on "Les Haltes vers Compostelle" https://www.haltesverscompostelle.eu/ . They publish a one page...

Accommodations and Services on the Le Puy Route

Hi Jenny! How marvellous to hear from you. I think you would LOVE Béatrix. Such an interesting, warm, and lovely person. I could have talked with her for days. And her place is such a delight. Newly renovated and chock-a-block with creative and delightful touches.

Accommodations and Services on the Le Puy Route

Hi Anthony I missed when you are going, so if the trip is still pending and if at all possible, I would recommend spending the night in Rocamadour. I was there in April and it's absolutely mobbed with tourists from when the busses arrive until when they leave. But between 6:30pm and 10am it's...

Accommodations and Services on the Le Puy Route

Hi there What an amazing piece of work. I just got back from the Via Podiensis, and really loved the Wise Pilgrim app - maybe a collaboration? I stayed in a new gite in Maslacq - Chez L. It was hands down my favorite of all the 37? 38? places I stayed. Beatrix was amazing. Here's the website...

Average daily expenses on the Le Puy

Currently walking the Le Puy (day 31) 50€ a day pretty much covers the gîte with D-P(37-40€), groceries for lunch (6€), a coffee for break (1.50 €), and a beer at the end of the day (3 €).

Where are you planning to stay the first two days?

Le Puy en Velay in 2 weeks.....Exactly!

So, when you say "snow", what do you mean? Is there snow pack on the trail? I am training in snow, since we have a lot here, and my shoes are pretty good for grip and warm enough, but they won't grip on ice when the trail is really cold. More info on the snow would be helpful.

Le Puy en Velay in 2 weeks.....Exactly!

Wow! I am flying out Apr 1 too! I will be in Le Puy April 2, and am thinking of hitting the road Apr 4 after a day of recuperation in Le Puy. Blue pack, white hair, hiking poles. Buen camino! Sheila
