I also walked right through this town, as part of my stage Alatoz to Casa Ibanez. It was a gorgeous gorge but I didn't regret not spending the night in Alcala de Jucar. I had a picnic lunch in the park by the river just near the bridge. I'm more of a walk-on-through kind of pilgrim. Maybe I'm...
I’ve walked a fair number of caminos, and the Lana is still my favorite- the solitude, the kindness and generosity of the people along the route, the challenge of the occasional very long day, the beauty of the countryside, the large number of albergues despite the small number of pilgrims, the...
I just learned from a Spanish pilgrim friend that David and Coke are no longer in the village (her sons I think) which is why the family albergue is closed. So he walked a long stage to San Esteban that day.
Maria is a very kind woman. Yes I would advise calling her for advice. Perhaps the albergue which her family has offered in the past in Caracena has reopened. She cooked me some food when I arrived in Caracena hungry and tired, and offered to help me get a ride to San Esteban if Fresno did...
I can help a little, on the basis of my walk to Cuenca and on to Siquenza last November and on to Burgos in April. See my summary in another thread if you like. (I don't know how to give a link to that thread.)
Briefly, Days 1-4 are albergues. No heat in Villar de Domingo Garcia, but warm...
I suspect there are or will be options between Retortillo de Soria and San Esteban de Gomez, a distance of 44.6 km. But I would advise pilgrims to call ahead persistently. Tarancuena, Ines and Olmillos are listed in the Alicante guide as having possible acogida, probably something very...
So continuing:
Stage 28 - San Esteban de Gormaz to Quintanarraya, 32 km.
I visited the Church of San Miguel in the morning on my way out of town - very impressive, and then walked across undulating hills and fields for 23 km until reaching Alcubilla de Avellaneda where I found my first open...
Here is my continuation of my Ruta de la Lana walk, continued April 4th -12th 2022, which I am contributing in the hopes that specific recent information will help future pilgrims.
On my return to Spain, I took the train to SIguenza, a convenient spot to continue my interrupted fall walk from...
I'm about to head back to Spain to continue Ruta de la Lana, and appreciate the ideas above on how to connect the end of the Ruta de la Lana at Burgos with the Camino Olvidado. My currents thoughts are to walk the Camino Frances from Burgos to Boadilla del camino (or to Fromista), then turn...
So I averaged 16 Euros/day as a single person in November 2021, but sometimes I was sharing the cost of a double room which made for more economical lodging. The 16 Euros/day averages in 9 donativos where I contributed an average of 10 Euros/night. And this covers just the 22 days from...
Thank you both. I'll let you know what, if anything, I discover. Possibly the centro social in one or more of these villages will come up with something.
I will be restarting the Ruta de la Lana soon, starting from Siguenza, with its convenient railroad connection with Madrid. The first stage to Atienza is 32 km. For a first day, and not knowing how my back/leg will hold up (which is what stopped me last December on this route), I would like...
Several things: First - the cold. My part of Alaska is more temperate than most of the midwest of the U.S. I like to walk in cool and even cold weather; what is hard is trying to stay warm once reaching the day's destination. I found that more challenging than I anticipated. So next time -...
Yes, agreed.
Even though I loved every day, even the first, I would agree that starting further north in a mountainous area, without the more built up areas of the first 3-4 days, would be more interesting. I just kept feeling that each day was more beautiful than the last, which made it even...
(Continuing)
Stage 13. Paracuellos de la Vega to Monteagudo de las Salinas. 18 km. I had been warned about snow, but there was no snow, just freezing temperatures and cold winds. The castle ruins in the morning fog were eerie, followed by a sighting of 3 roe deer bounding up the hillside...
I hope this summary of my recent Ruta de la Lana will be useful to someone.
Like many of us, I was more than ready to get walking again, despite the continuing pandemic, so when I felt it was safe enough for me to travel to Spain and walk, I started November 11th, though this was a little...
Thank you for wondering!
I got as far as Atienza, at which point an old problem with sciatica flared and I could not bear any weight on one leg. Luckily a Belgium friend who had planned to come walk the last 5 stages with me, flew down, rented a car instead, and rescued me, as I literally...
Thanks everyone. These resources are great and well presented.
The snow held off - now coming tomorrow supposedly but the locals don’t think so. I think the super detailed Alicante guide is my best bet in snow.
Gorgeous easy walk today between Paracuellos and Monteagudo de las Salinas -...
I have Kevin’s guide downloaded. I too could not find it under Resources, but found it in a thread somewhere. His tarmac route alternative is from Campillo to Monteagudo, bypassing Paracuellos, so not helpful.
And my phone is just not into downloading road maps, this trip. I don’t know how...
