2015 SEPTEMBER PILGRIMS

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Buen Camino Wendy!
Thanks Mike.

I've been looking forward to the Camino for so long, but I woke up in the middle of the night feeling terrified! But it's wonderful to see all the support and encouragement from the people here, it really has helped me feel a lot better this morning.

I know I'll be fine when I get there and actually start.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

You are so right. Everything is going to be fine though, once you are there, it may take a while for you to realize it is really happening!

C clearly, I depart StJPdP Sept 25. If all goes well keeping to JB's guidebook, I should be in Estella (or Los Arcos?) on Oct 1 and walking all of October. Hope to be at SdeC cathedral Nov 2 for my 'ochenta compleano':>)
That's fantastic Movinmaggie! Happy early birthday and buen camino.

Wow...Sarah! Thank you for the quick reply! I can also fly from Riga to Biarritz but depends on the price. How about next step from Biarritz to SJPP? What I read about is go to Bayonne first and then take a trian to SJPP, isn't? Thanks!

I'm not sure where I read it but i thought the train to SJPP was still down. Maybe it's back up??? Anyway since i thought it was down and couldn't find that leg of the train available online we're taking a van from Biarritz. Here's our plans and timing to give you an idea. My daughter and I are flying into Paris (CDG), then taking the train (which is I think right at the airport) to Biarritz and then we have reservations with a van service Express Bourricot to pick us up. I think our flight gets us into Paris 7:35am, train leaves station around 10am gets us to Biarritz at 3:43pm the van picks us up and they said it's about an hour drive to SJPP so we'll get in about 5pm. We have reservations that first night at Bielari since we wanted to know where we'd be sleeping. The lady at Bielari said to check in with her before we go get our passport. I guess it's very close and she said it would still be open.

Looking at it now I wish I had planned for a full day in SJPP to get more organized but I have us starting the camino the following morning. Can't change it now as I made reservations at Orrison for the next night since I wanted to start out a little slow. From there we have no set plans as to how fast/slow we go.

Buen Camino!

I leave on Sept 9th for Paris, the 14th from SJPP. Is it too late to order a forum patch? I live in California

Hi, I ordered another one for my day pack and it came within 3 days, I'm in the UK. I believe they ship to the US in less than a week?

My husband and I are leaving from SJPdP on the 14th as well. Most likely we'll cross paths...Buen Camino!

That is great. My name is Josh and I will most likely see you. I have a taxi from Bayonne to SJPP if you are needing to get there.

Yes I am looking for someone to share a taxi with but i land Septmeber 11th at 10 am and then I want to head to SJPDP. Saw on the forum somewhere to see if I could share a taxi but now can't find it. Do you have to make reservation for taxi in advance ?

Below is the taxi sharing thread

There are always private taxis outside the airport, the drivers are aware what times planes are due to land. You don't have to reserve in advance, try and find some other pilgrims to share with to reduce the cost.

In Orisson you can purchase a sandwich from them to take with you up the mountain & you can refill water from the fountain out front.
You may want to purchase some trail mix or something if the sort --- the next water/food stop is near the top of the mountain (man who sells boiled eggs, bananas, cheese, & drinks).

Enjoy that mountain climb. I just climbed it 2 days ago --- the wind was very strong.
On the way down - there are two ways - the steep & shorter distance or the less steep & a little longer. I recommend opting for less steep & longer way - it is quicker because you can move faster on the safer ground. The steep way took a very long time because of having to move so slow to avoid slipping. Just my 2 cents worth.
Good Luck

Hy, last April I did the steep way, it was slippery but it was a great walk down.
Wish you well, Peter.

I now have a revised starting date, Mon 31 August from Pamplona. An ATM ate my credit card, and I'll have to wait until the bank opens on Monday morning to get it back.

Maybe this is a Camino lesson in patience!

Greetings fellow Pilgrims...
I'm flying in to Asturias airport on the morning of September 3rd, getting straight on to the Camino Norte. Hitting the road immediately and hoping to reach Soto de Luina at the end of the first day. Giving myself 12 days to reach SdeC but 14 days in total for the trip. This gives me a day or so to breathe before the end. Might take a day out to Muxia.
Anyway, good luck everyone - enjoy it!

EDIT: Just noticed this thread is for the Camino Frances... oh well, I'll just back away quietly and get my coat
Enjoy your Frances everyone!

I'm landing at 10 am in Pamplona on September 11th if someone is interested in sharing a taxi with me to St Jean. Let me know.

Hi Robb! It's perfectly OK to join us but I'm not sure any other Norteists have declared their interest or dates? Perhaps set up your own thread and ask who is going when? It's great to make contact with those who are leaving on the same date?
Wishing you a great trip
Buen camino

Change of plans because of transportation; Sacha and I will start 21 September from Jean Pied instead of 22.. So excited!! And buen camino to you all

I leave the U.S two weeks from today arriving in St. Jean Pied de Port on September 17th. I can't wait for my camino adventure that will begin on September 18th as well as meeting some of you along the way. I'm taking a train from Bordeaux to Bayonne and while the schedules show a train to St. Jean, I haven't been successful in booking that leg for some reason. Any suggestions appreciated.

Change of plans: I'll be arriving in SJPdP on the 10th, resting during the 11th and starting out for the pilgrimage on the morning of the 12th.
Hi Jeanette. I have booked the same hostel as you are in and expect to arrive on september 10 at around 16.00 - 17.00. Will have to go to the tourist office to get my passport. We could arrange soemthing to meet up.
