I will be leaving St Jean on August 25 - I have not heard back from Orisson so I am planning on walking through to Roncesvalles also
I'm a bit nervous too, but seeing that Orisson only has 18 beds - it seems like most folks walk through to Roncesvalles. I'm focusing on slow & steady to get me through.

I'll be 1 day behind you (aug 26), but knowing myself, i will catch up at some point
Dont be nervous about walking SJPP to Roncesvalles in one go. About 90% (if not more) of all pilgrims starting in St Jean walk that stretch in one day and they are of all ages and fitness levels.
Like you said, just take your time and you'll be fine.

Dont be nervous about walking SJPP to Roncesvalles in one go. About 90% (if not more) of all pilgrims starting in St Jean walk that stretch in one day and they are of all ages and fitness levels.

Hi @Jun Meng yes the train from Paris runs every day. I haven't used the trains myself but I think from a 10am landing this is doable? In September the last train leaves Bayonne at 18.10 and I think I have read that it waits for the train from Paris? Hope this helps.
Sorry I fly into Biarritz from the UK so not sure about links from Paris.

Yes as above what Margaret said! If you land in Biarritz you take a bus to Bayonne railway station then train/bus combo to St Jean, it's usually all train but part of the track is being mended. I'm sure there will be other pilgrims around to give you a hand, just follow the backpacks!

Buy your ticket at the Bayonne rr station when you arrive. Transport is by a train/bus combo which is unreserved. One ticket bought in Bayonne at the rr station for roughly 11 euros will cover both the train and connecting bus.

I'll be walking from St Jean on 12 Sept and plan to walk to Burgos in 2 weeks.
I have a question. If my flight lands into Biarritz at 9am, do you think I can make the 11.10 train from Bayonne to St Jean?
I want to stay in Orisson that evening (still waiting to hear back from the albergue) and the next train after the 11.10 is at 14.50 so don't think I'll be able to make it to Orisson on the same day.

Welcome susany! Your start date is one of the most popular in September, I had no trouble finding pilgrims to share, 6 of us shared 2 taxis easily and got to St Jean in no time! Those french drivers are Really fast!

Yes I think you should be able to make the train, Biarritz is a small airport so it doesn't take long to collect your luggage if it's checked. The airport bus takes about 40 minutes I'm told, so it sounds like you should have plenty of time to catch the 11.10 train.

My wife and I are starting from SJPdP on September 16 and staying the first night in Orisson. We plan to be in Leon on October 10 or 11 to meet friends and hope we aren't being too ambitious! Although we have been "training", we expect to walk about 20 km a day to enjoy the scenery,visit churches along the way and preserve our feet.

Hi and welcome @hcarlen there is food to purchase at Orisson but no shop for provisions. I seem to remember from another thread that advice is given to bring something, though I'm pretty sure you will be able to pick up a baguette?

Hi Allan and welcome, like Mike says your plan should be doable, your stamina and conditioning will improve as you progress as long as you don't push too hard at the beginning and get injured. Once you reach Burgos and climb up to the mesata the walking becomes very flat so its a little easier to go further.

Hi everyone!! I fly to Biarritz on wednesday the 16th of september and land at 17:05. I havnt made any plans just looking for a bit of validation.

Hi Antonio, September is very busy but midweek you should be OK.
They will help you out at the Pilgrims office - Amie du Chemins 39 rue de la Citadelle. If you want to feature in this years statistics or pick up a Credential you need to go there anyway?
If you were one day later I would be on the same flight as you! I'm arriving the 17th. I personally like the peace of mind of booking my first bed in advance I will be staying at Gite Ultreia.
I wish you all the best, I won't catch you as I'm quite slow and nursing an injury at the moment so taking my time for the first few days.

There isn't an August list I am just following the tradition that @DeadFred started last year as September is the busiest month and I wanted everyone to be able to see easily which forum members they were likely to meet and be able to get in touch if they wished.
I will add you to the list as it actually began on the 23rd August!
