What does the abbreviation "Rda" mean in Spanish? In context: "Calle la Rda, Villalcázar de Sirga". I have googled (of course), but I've obviously not been asking the right questions, as I've found no answer there.
Thanks

Yes Ronda is what came to mind too - I think maybe given to ringroads. . .

"Around", in the sense of "bypass", and in contrast to "through"?

I looked up the definition of ronda in the online Spanish dictionary published by the RAE. Definition #6 appears to be the one we want.

6. f. Cada uno de los paseos o calles cuyo conjunto circunda una ciudad o la parte antigua de ella.

6. f. Each of the walks or streets whose group surrounds a city or the old part of it .

To me that appears to be the case for the streets in Villalcázar de Sirga with Ronda in the name.

Thanks, all. I tried Streetview, but I couldn't get close enough to read the sign I found. I was probably looking at a different sign. But really, is it worth saving the space occupied by two letters? I know we abbreviate 'June' to 'Jun', but that is usually when all the months are shortened to three letters.

Could it be retonda as in roundabout

If I'd asked this question on theanswerbank and Canuck had put his answer (post #9) there, I would have marked it as 'Best Answer'. In case you haven't bothered to look, it clears up the 'ronda/rotonda' question (not retonda). I just wish I knew my way around the interweb as well as some of you do. I wonder how the Rondeños feel about living in a town called 'Ring Road'? Does Ronda have a ring road? If so, what do they call it? La ronda de Ronda?

One place I worked as a software engineer had an “abbreviation policy.” One of the items I objected to (without success) was having us use “BNDSHFT” for “BANDSHIFT.” Later, working for healthcare, management ignored my request to prohibit writing S.O.B. for "shortness of breath” in view of the patient.
