Hello fellow pilgrims,

I'm leaving for SJPdP on 30 august and currently I am looking into some sleeping options for the first few nights.
I would like to walk from Zubiri to Cizur Menor or Zariquiegui, but the albergues as listed on Camino Ninja (and also when researching the internet) currently don't seem to be open at all. I would like to walk more than the 20kms to Pamplona on this day, but I don't want to risk having to walk 38kms to Uterga that day to find a place to sleep.

Are there any other options I'm not seeing here? I also checked Zizur Mayor but they only offer more expensive hotel rooms, so that would be a last resort option.

Muchas gracias!

I looked up the stage on Gronze and so far as I can see, there are options. When I tried to copy the page, a lot of gobbledegook appeared, so I leave it to you to try yourself. If I am reading it wrong, then you could walk to Cizur Menor and taxi back to Pamplona, getting a taxi again the following morning back to the same spot. Or taxi to Uterga, and likewise, taxi back in the morning. All the best, buen camino.

Thanks for your reply.
On Gronze, for Cizur Menor it states 2 options: La Orden de Malta (which is shown as closed on Camino Ninja) and Maribel Roncal which also states that it is closed.
The semi-affordable option of Hostal Ardoi in Zizur Mayor is fully booked for my date.
And last, Albergue San Andres in Zariquiegui is also closed.

From this I am guessing I will have to settle for staying in Pamplona.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Gronze states that Casa Roncal is temporarily closed. This number is given for the Order of Malta albergue: tel: +34616651330
Perhaps an albergue you stay in might oblige by ringing for you to see if they are open? Unless you can cope with Spanish conversation yourself. The albergues in Pamplona should have plenty of space. Another option - stop in the big albergue in Pamplona, get settled, and have a slow walk up to Cizur, (about 5km) and get a bus back to the city... you can take a bus to Cizur the next morning...

Have you considered walking from Pamplona to Tiebas?
From the Pamplona airport walk southeast to Tiebas to join the Camino Aragones and perhaps stay in the Tiebas albergue. (This is their Gronze page). Reservations are accepted.

Or ignore the Pamplona airport and at Cizur Menor follow route NA 6000 SE to Campanas, then NA 121/calle Ozelaia to Tiebas.

The hub of Tiebas is the bar/resto in the Centro Social de Tiebas, at # 34 Calle Mayor, tel +34 948 36 00 02

After Tiebas walk west on the CA paralleling route NA-601 to the splendid circular Romanesque church at Eunate where the albergue is now unfortunately closed and then 4km further to Puente la Reina/Gares to re-meet the Camino Frances.

Happy planning and Buen camino

I was in Cizur Menor (Order of Malta) last 25 July, and we were about 30 pilgrims, and it was very open, even though gronze and camino ninja said it was closed. It was a very nice place and very welcoming hospitalieras.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Oh that is great news, thanks for your reply! And those are some beautiful pictures.

I'll probably call ahead then to check if the Order of Malta is open and if it is closed after all, I can still walk from Zubiri to Pamplona and possibly bus to Cizur Menor and back.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Gronze is currently showing it as open, and in fact the most recent comentario on Gronze is from July 6th of this year.

My current arrangement is to walk on 3rd day from Urdaniz, a few km’s by Zubiri, through Pamplona to Ultegra. ( I want to buy a sleeping bag in Pamplona). At any point if it becomes too tiring, we will taxi to our pre-booked Casa in Ultegra and return to where we stopped walking in the morning. Might be an interesting day.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
