accomodation in Santander

Hi,

I am planning on walking from St Jean Pied de Port to Burgos this June and then flying out from Santander and was wondering can anyone recommend a nice little hotel / B&B etc. to stay at in Santander? I don't really want it to be an 'airport' hotel but my flight is very early the next morning.

Also, is it easy to get from Burgos to Santander?

Thanks

Prilia

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi Prilia,

Second part first, there are many buses from Burgos to Santander, their schedules are on the website. It is a very pleasant trip through nice countyside and mountains.

Accommodation is plentiful within walking distance of the bus terminal at Santander, we booked to stay at a E30/night ensuite hotel, but as it was not available at the last moment we then had alternative similar accommodation arranged by the first hotel at the next street.

It was done very efficiently, little English was spoken though.

Buses run regularly from the bus terminal to the distant airport, I am not sure of the time of the first bus but you can arrange the airport transport by asking the hotel. The check-in at Santander, and the boarding of the aircraft can be chaotic so please be early. The immigration can be a bottleneck so if you do not hold a European passport make sure you get the proper forms to fill in before you join the queue, otherwise you will have to go back to the end of the queue to fill in the form and start again.

Dear Joe,

Many thanks for information. It's good to know about possible holdups as we have an early morning flight.

Anyway, would you have the name of the hotel that you stayed at? Trying to get organised for the bits that I can organise!

Thanks

Hi Prilia,
We usually book through booking.com for most of our hotel stays and we ended up staying in Pension Plaza. Their website is http://www.pension-plaza.com. The room is clean, ensuite, telephone, TV, very centrally located and is on a street full of low cost accommodation. This is as much as I can inform you as there is a restriction to giving too much information on this wonderfullt helpful forum which can be deemed comercialisation. You can send me a pm and I can let you have their email and phone if you speak Spanish.
This incidentally is a replacement room as the first hotel booked by booking.com did not have rooms available, so the original hotel arranged for this alternative arrangement. Enjoy your stay and Camino.

Hi Prilia,

I've just uncovered the bus timetable which was in operation last July from Santander to airport.
The first bus was at 6:30am daily, with next departure at 6:50. Subsequent departures were quarter past the hour and also quarter to.

Buen Camino

In situations like that, is not a bad idea to try in the albergue. Don't forget you are a pilgrim. If it's full (Santander has not a big one) it's possible to obtain from the albergue some suggests about pensions or similar.
