Time of past OR future Camino
sept 2018
Hola, I write this email and hope to find a quick answer.
Me and my two adult daughters are planning to walk a part of the camino, starting at Astorga and ending a little more than 100 km towards Santiago. We will not have time for more this year but plan to continue with other parts in the years to come.
Our plan is that I, living in San Javier/Murcia, drive up to Madrid airport on Monday the 10 of September and pick up my daughters arriving from Stockholm/Sweden where they live. We drive from Madrid to Astorga on that Monday and plan to start the camino on the following Tuesday. The car then has to be parked in Astorga and we have to find a way to get back to it after completing our camino one week later (their flight back is on Tuesday 18/9). We also hope to spend the first night in Astorga, starting the camino early on the following day.
What do you think about this plan? problems? advice? Any info is highly appreciated.
Hasta pronto and best regards
//Peter D

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum! If it was possible (I haven’t looked at the logistics), I would leave my car at the end of the walk, and get a bus to Astorga. Then you have your car at the end, ready to get into, and drive back to the airport.

Welcome, @Pedrito5 .
Check Rome2Rio - it will give you an idea of transport options from wherever you finish back to Astorga. You can loosely plan, by getting an idea of where it is be possible to easily get transport back, and then just walk and see where you end up. There are direct train connections from Ponferrada - and direct bus connections from several places after that.
It makes sense to spend the night in Astorga - it's an interesting place and it gives you time to 'land' on the Camino.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Muchas gracias Jill,
I will look into that - seems a good advice.

Six days walking from Astorga, puts you at Sarria. From there, you can get a bus or train back to Astorga. I second the advice to position your car at the end, in Sarria, and double back to Astorga.

Hope this helps.
