Albergue in Mesquita

Just walked the first few days on the Nascente from Tavira to Beja. A wonderful route, unspoilt and beautiful. However I could not get into the albergue at Mesquita - emails and phone went unanswered and when I arrived the place was closed. Does anyone know if the albergue is permanently closed or I just arrived a bit off-season?

On the 6th of October 2023 the albergue’s caretaker(s) did not answer repeated phone calls. The Tourist Office of Mértola confirmed its closure which was though to be permanent. A reason could not be given.
This albergue is of vital importance to reduce the 43 km stage between Alcoutim and Mértola. Which, by the way, will become almost undoable when afternoon temperatures rise way above the thirties.
